Yikes.

Carl

Did someone hack your account?

No. You said I frequently referred to you as an "operative". Please show me where.

Oberon, you listening?

(I actually met TK once, and his predecessor, JP McL! who was the bottom guy from the 1993 furlough)

Yep! And by the time of the merger we were just into the upper 6600's.

Fair enough. I've been furloughed before and I'm prepared if I'm furloughed again. Carl ran out of ideas why I'm saying what I'm saying and accused me of being afraid of furlough. Maybe I should be afraid of furlough but I'm not. In addition to the 500 pilots below me now there are 400+ pilots at Compass to ease my fall. I'm pretty handy and I'm willing to do yard work. My family won't starve.

My posts here aren't driven by fear of furlough, or being an ALPA/company/Ford & Harrison operative even though I've been accused of being each.

I have about 500 people below me right now. A lot of Delta pilots are scheduled to retire soon and continuously for the next ten years. There is not much, if any, efficiency to be gained by putting more people in airplanes. In order for me to be furloughed Delta would have to shrink significantly, which would probably be due to a worldwide depression, or drones will have to be certified. There is absolutely nothing we could do in C2015 that would affect either of those possibilities.

Oberon does make some good points here. The current DAL is a running a lot 'leaner" than in 2000 and the Pilot group is way older. Couple that with DAL making huge $$$$ in a down economy and I do believe he is a lot safer than when Buzz and I and over 1000 of our bestest buds got an unpaid vacation.

That being said - very bad Karma to even hint at not being subject to a Furlough.

Oberon- we're making more money right now than any airline in history. Let that sink in. How many Moaks of leverage is that worth on the standard scale?

Another thing to consider is the lower cost of debt servicing. It has been put out that when our company debt gets down to 5 Billion (B), from whatever ungodly number it peaked at, DAL will be saving 1B/year on interest payments. Let me say that again 1B a year!

We are currently looking at a very, very, favorable negotiating environment. Lets hope we make the most of it.

I believe that is measured in at least 3 Moaks of leverage via the standard formula. :D

Seriously though, completely agreed!

Agreed. I'm well aware that I could be furloughed and I think I've laid out the risks clearly enough. I'm just not afraid of being furloughed. I've been there before, I've stashed a few pennies away and am willing to drink a bit less Oberon to make ends meet.
