I am confused why a person on a long flight would prefer flight deck jumpseat when you are stuck sitting there at least in the cabin you can stretch your legs. Yes you are in the way but you can get up and move freely. At the end of the day commuting is something lots of pilots deal with and even though I am not one I always try to get someone on even if it means sitting in the FA JS.

Yep. There is a gray era within the FOM. Shocking, huh? Now, realistically speaking, I'm sure almost none would ever try it, but there's always that one militaristic one out there. The question then becomes, as a captain, how far do you push back against their "push to test?" How far are you willing to go in alienating your purser to get an OAL on?

I especially liked the veiled "North" dig you worked in there.
Passing judgment on a guy's humanity without the slightest clue. Now there's some Delta arrogance.

Interesting you would imply that I am not a "decent human being" because of my take on this particular issue. You don't know me, and have no clue about my community and church activities, nor about my involvement in other fields that would indicate the complete opposite of your implication.

Let's see, first off- my post did not call you "not a decent human being" overall due to your take on the issue. Read it again carefully. If you want to read between the lines, you would have been more correct in interpreting it as you not extending a common courtesy to your fellow pilots.
Now let's move on to the supposed North dig where you just made yourself look really silly. I grew up around NW, the first airline procedures I learned were NW... my flight kit when I carried it had a NW sticker on it and no DL stickers. Yeah, I really hate NW.

The dig was at hockey- he was hired by NW early in 2008. He made quite a stink among his classmates and the reputation has followed him. His attitude on here has reflected similarly.

Of course you agree with them... you have a terrible attitude just like hockey. He has a pretty poor reputation among those he hired on with at NW, too.
I used to be a commuter- two legs. I'll never forget both those who went out of their way to help me out, and also won't repeat the toolish move like you are suggesting on not doing what you can to get everyone on board. Me being in the schoolhouse has nothing to do with it- I've been there and done that.
It's simple and just being a decent human being helping those out who may or may not thank you. I don't expect them to grovel at my feet when I sit in the FA jumpseat.

Feel free to handle the JS as you'd like but there is no obligation to sit sideways just to get an offline guy on. Also, HP got burned doing so and I respect his decision not to abide.
Being home with family is more important than impressing the offline guy.
