I think everyone forgets about the process leading up to a strike. Everyone saying we will never be allowed to go on strike forgets that all the other checkpoints, including a strike, could occur.
While I'm not an expert:
1. As we move through mediation towards the "impasse" and 30 day cooling off period the union could go to the membership for a strike vote.
2. After the cooling off period (30 days, I believe) there are a couple more checkpoints before being released to "self help" (strike). Once a strike and strike date and time are declared, the POTUS has to declare a Presidential Emergency Board (PEB) in order to stop the strike.
So, while a real strike may never occur the uncertainty associated with a strike (including among all Delta Pax) will occur and result in some issues with our investors and analysts that will put pressure on the company.
If I've made any errors in my summation please feel free to correct it. This is mostly from memory in the lead up to C2K (I was still on probation but remember it well).

I've got my war chest saved up. Hopefully others do too.

Southwest is soon going into, I believe, their 5th year of waiting to hit the first of those "checkpoints".
"Moving through mediation" at that pace is not acceptable. For all practical purposes, the "process leading up to a strike" no longer exists.

Those are all good points. Except-

We have to play the NMB's game to comply with the law but they have made themselves irrelevant to any real airline contract negotiations.
They've reduced the Railway Labor Act to 5 words: We're not allowed to strike.
Fine.
We don't need to strike. We'll do it without them.

All ALPA National has to do iso give Congress 6 months to fix the Railway Labor Act.
After that, the 60,000 ALPA pilot March to the White House.
But that will never happen because our ALPA presidents care only for lining up their next job.
Recall Tim Canoll.
1% union dues
50% budget cut at ALPA National

What's the cost of sick leave abuse and LCA trip drops to the company? IDK. Maybe it's Ed's personality that he can't handle what he perceives to be us taking advantage of the contract. Seems more personal than economic.

Yep. Just start having normal conversations every where you are in front of pax and use the word "strike" in the conversation. You could be talking about bowling who cares. 13,000 people start doing this social media will notice.

Oh, now I get it. Our/all big time executives have all sorts of good deals and loop holes intentionally included in their contracts... and take advantage of every one of them. When workers advantage themselves of a good deal it is clearly "an abuse" that must be addressed. Finally, I get it. Duhh, sorry Ed. ?.. but wait wasn't it called a "contract?" OFG
