They rarely only have one of something in a drop. You'll get your pick even if someone is above you.
That said though, sometimes there is no pick. Some entire classes have been NYC-ER or MD88 etc. But that's rare and I don't see it happening now.

Not really.
A class is only 2 dozen pilots give or take (usually) and very few pilots actually live there. With tons of opportunities in LA and SEA, even "west coast" pilots have tons of options. Even a "senior category" can go to a class plug sometimes. Maybe the class was mostly east coast/midwest pilots anyway who knows. Its not that rare a thing to happen.
