Indoc is a golden opportunity to build good will. Not to threaten and intimidate and shock and awe people. We already lag the industry for new hires in pay during training plus the hotel situation etc. So they talk down to everyone because of the occasional rumored bad apple from a flow years ago etc?

My point was that it is common courtesy/being polite not to hold back row conversations when someone is speaking, even if you disagree with the importance of the subject. If you think that is OK then you must think 2 JS's chatting away in the cockpit while taxiing out is acceptable.

I was extremely motivated and happy to be hired and I have to believe today's new hires are just as motivated and excited as I was. So what would drive excited and motivated new hires to not pay attention and carry on side conversations in class? Well, it is possible we got an entire class of rude individuals who all fooled the MMPI, the interviewers, the shrink, and are now showing their true colors now that the big test is over. More likely they are smart people who are being told the obvious, lied to, or completely talked over. I wasn't there so I don't know. Occam's Razor leads me to believe that we don't have a mystical magical group of fakers who fooled everybody to get hired, therefore if they are chatty Kathy in class the fault lies with Delta, not the 50 new hires. Again, I wasn't there so this is purely conjecture.

Old people find young people talking and texting when we are trying to talk to you as being rude. It's a generational thing I guess. Your new employer doesn't have to change and accept the new norm at this point in time. For goodness sake put the phones away for a couple of hours. The world will not spin off it's axis if you don't answer immediately. When you are in charge you can allow people to ignore you all you want while you are trying to provide information. It is a process, and you will eventually be able to do this. You will win eventually

You all make great points. Yes, even JB does. However, I was there with IMissXJ. There was no incredibly rude texting or talking going on like you seem to assume. BB had already threatened us about how he ad better NEVER see us with our surfaces on while someone is talking. Valid point. Fail on delivery, though. The heavy hand was there from the get-go and there were no "younger generation" dynamics at play the two weeks I was there.
I did get a kick out of coming back from lunch and finding myself in the front row. I was kinda shocked we didn't have someone in the corner with a DUNCE cap. Maybe it should have been that guy who kept answering the questions incorrectly so often, it seemed like he was doing it on purpose.

Actually it just came up in conversation about a Christian Eagle I am looking to buy. Another pilot is interested in partnering in the aircraft. He has a friend who works with the new hires. That's why I stated it was second hand. If I had bothered to ask it would not have been second hand. Regardless it's the third no show in the last two years. Not exactly a crisis.
