Decisions....Decisions....
Hey all,
First, thank you for all the great info. I'm a Feb CJO and waiting on a class date (most likely end of May beginning of June).
I'm trying to prioritize my bid for just in case I do get the option to bid an airplane/base. With my SSN I have a potential to be in the upper half of the class.
I pretty much have my list down and trying to decide between the A320 and 7ER what would be my #1 & #2 choice.
I currently fly the A320 so that's a plus for easy transition and I've heard that the projected movement will be faster than the 7ER, on the other hand I love the 75/76 and would like the opportunity to fly it (I also like the A320 as well to make it more difficult)....
Base wise I wouldn't mind be based in NYC or DTW for the first couple years if I'll be able to get good schedules but long term goal is to be base in ATL which I plan to move there at some point.

Pretty close to it. I had a % bid and was awarded it because I didn't know it counts all unfilled positions as going to new hires.

FlyP,
Definitely a difficult decision, but good choices to have. Speaking of ATL since you plan to move there you would be more senior currently on the bus. It's a growing fleet in ATL and they are pumping lots of newhires on it. The 7ER will remain around for a few years and the fleet plan seems stable for the short term (that could change at anytime). The ATL 7ER is a very senior category and there hasn't been much movement in the past few years. With the summer plus up on the ER they are finally adding more new-hires on the fleet and as you can see in the past few class drops, the ATL 7ER has been consistent. Folks are slowly starting to bid off the plane and I would think the May AE with the 350 would be a good indicator to see how many people end up moving off.
I would expect to see the other ER bases start to get filled with new-hire slots specifically NYC where there is always a need. DTW could be awhile. SEA/SLC are also short on 7ER B's.
Having flown both planes (bus and 75/76) previously before Delta hands down the 75/76 is the more enjoyable plane to fly. The performance and comfort are great. It's an honest straightforward plane. The variety of trips on the ER here make it a very flexible category as well. The bus is great on comfort, but the trips are still more regional style at least outta ATL. Not much going out west either outta ATL. With the 321s coming on board its changing slowly.
Bottom line it's only 2 years which would go by fast. We will have the rest of our career to fly an Airbus product here. The 75/76 will be gone at some point. Not tomorrow, but might as well check the box if you are at all interested and its available in a base that could work out great for you and the family. Either way you can't go wrong. Welcome on board!

Thank you so much for this info! I really appreciate it. With all those plans I will most likely end up on the 88 lol....

I count 30 ATL ERs awarded to new hires since the last AE closed out...I believe the shortfall was 31.
I suspect there will be other ER bases filled from here on out...NYC was short too (87)
