2 years ago I talked with a 777FO who was somehow connected to pilot recruitment... he said that they were only taking 1/3 to 1/2 of their guaranteed interview folks because a lot of those guys came off as either unprepared for the interview or entitled and arrogant about the job already being theres... then said something about showing up to interviews dressed like a non conformist also not helping guys.

Take it for what it's worth, which is just about zero.

Legitimate question for the ones going up for interviews under the garaunteed interview program. Are guys doing the EC (or whoever) interview Prep and the RST 15 day technicial prep etc. courses prior to going to their interviews like the majority of the OTS hires are (I haven't heard of anyone going to delta NOT using interview prep)?

If not, is it possible that that's why there's a stigma that folks going through their Preferntial interview programs aren't prepared?

A lot of the rejects prepared well using the union's many prep courses, as well as the professional services like EC, etc.

PSA had an SSP for a bit, where everyone made it through. It's Delta culture that is selective, preparation is only 40% of your interview, maybe less. I know of at least 2 guys who did not prepare at all, and sailed through their SSP because they fit the Delta persona.

Companies hire whomever they want, a friend of mine throws out half the resumes he gets at his company randomly. He says, "why would I hire someone who is unlucky?".

Yes, he stole that hiring practice from Ricky Gervais.

Most of them have started, but at least a couple guys I know were so crushed by the process that they just buried their head and stayed here with the good pay and good qol. A couple i know are having trouble getting call backs. My worry would whether or not being at 9E would be a liability trying to go to united or somewhere. Would they ask themselves, why didn't this guy get hired by Delta?

One of my concerns is regarding the training department. I'm getting a feeling that there's a chance of everything moving to Atlanta? And to reiterate, I'm only guessing here

If they ever up and close the MSP base like Compass then maybe. Anyone know if their HQ is staying in MSP by the way?

The tv screen in the crew room with union information said they'll be moving. Compass people seem to think differently

A summary of what I did, which hopefully helps others prepare;
I read almost every book in the Delta suggested reading list, and took notes. I then studied those notes often, like when commuting to work and back. I signed up for Ready Set Takeoff which was one of the best recommendations I got! Did an Aero Crew face to face prep in ATL which also helped me scope out the Delta HQ and building 1020 where the interview takes place, plus visit the Delta museum. I did an over the phone with Aero Crew to tidy up my app in airlineapps.com, and it was worth it even though I had looked over my app countless times. I did the full Emerald Coast prep package. Really enjoyed that. I took notes from every Sky magazine and paid attention to every preflight safety video. I read the Delta museum website and especially Deltanet like there was no tomorrow. Which by the way, I found a lot of useful information pertinent to being an Endeavor pilot, especially their flight ops safety information. For awhile when I was an FO almost every captain had done the SSP and was willing to give me insight, which again I compiled notes on, and for all the help I am very grateful. The DGI guys right now may not have as much access to first hand accounts, so take advantage when you have the chance to listen. I was more or less a slam clicker during trips for a while, because when I'm home, I'm watching my kid which is extremely time consuming.

If I had it all to do over again I would have used one of those fancy log 10 pro or whatever those programs are that take your flight time electronically and compile it. I think those programs can also print a paper copy of your logbook, too. I gave myself grey hair with my logbooks; making my own electroinc logbook, reviewing my paper logbooks, and adding up time by each individual aircraft by hand to get the airlineapps data right. With a bonafide logbook program I could have spent waaay more time studying instead of crunching numbers and worrying.

I just spoke with a fellow Delta pilot who does the interviews for new hires.

His opinion, your job to lose. He said many come to the interview unprepared.

As a Delta captain, I love flying with new hires from our regionals. Outstanding pilots and a pleasure to work with.

Hope this helps.

Getting hired at an airline has always been an unfair mystery. Had a friend in college who was outstanding across the board. Got rejected by 9 airlines then got the job that was hardest to get.

Sadly it will never make sense.
