I've seen many memos over the years about Christmas ties being acceptable, haven't seen one giving the thumbs up to wear red and green epaulettes. Have fun looking like a fool.

One of our CAs wore large suspenders, one red and one green. When somebody complained that such holiday accessories were not authorized, he said: “Holiday? These are yachting suspenders! You know, red right returning...”

Haha man when did we hire Ebenezer Scrooge? No Santa hats or colored eplaulletes or you will be judged most likely from a distance by some tool later on the internet. You have been warned.

I've never seen the holiday epaulettes. I guess I've usually had Christmas off, where do they come from? Crew Outfitters?

Unless I missed a memo somewhere I'd say both holiday ties and holiday epaulettes aren't "approved" but I am not wound up enough to care.

I doubt if paying passengers are thinking "what an unprofessional pilot" when they see either, whether other pilots think that is probably a mixed bag.

I guess it’s all about image for you
And sure I will make fun of you for wearing a hat right to your face. but then you are probably one of the guys who whines to prostands because you where yelled at for trying to flare at 100’ and didn’t like the other pilots tone of voice when corrected
It’s a non required item..
Do you know what makes me professional
Oh yea doing my job & not being all wrapped up in wearing a hat & how I look on social media
Watch out! Captain Awesome in the house! Since we are stereotyping, I'd like to apologize now to your stick and rudder holiness. Every guy who got so bent out of shape about a new guy who rightfully isn't as good as the Captain at flying and then took it out on his uniform choices is usually a fat slob with faded pants and stains on his shirt. So, congrats Captain Mustard. You win flying.

Oh, and if you are yelling at anyone in the cockpit enough to get prostans on your case, you are an awful Captain. Unless your FO starts talking on his phone in the flare, there really isn't any reason to ever yell at an FO. You are a professional airline Captain, not a Riddle flight instructor trying to prove how tough he is.

And before you retort something stupid, yes, I was a Captain. No, even in a high flare or unstable approach, I've never yelled at anyone. All you do is say go around. Or take the controls and then mentor later. Or, god forbid, be a PM and actually watch the guy so when he does, you correct him so he can learn to do it better next time.

The flip side of that is that while at the gate counter you get far less ticketing questions while wearing the hat.

Another benefit in the winter is keeping your head warmer.

Lastly you can always add the command presence effect. It's scientifically proven, like it or not.

I leave mine home in summer, and wear it in winter.

I wear the Christmas epaulettes on the leather jacket and people seem to love them. Many pilots ask where they can get them. (it's a non profit company that donates the revenue to a charity).
