In reality every time an 8 year FO makes a lateral move they are as much part of the problem for voting in a bad contract. Every time someone resets their seniority it is a win for management. That is probably why Mainline makes sure they beat at least 1 regional up so that way pilot chase their tail and move to the next one. We are showing them that if you make it bad at our current airline we will move to the one that looks better. (Normally means growing) Everyone says well I want to get off the sinking ship that is just as harmful if not more than voting in a bad contract.

I am only an FO in his 4th year, but this logic is another part of the reason I've held on. After being proverbially beaten and beaten some more my resolve is waning. But maybe I won't need Compass or PSA as an opportunity with Allegiant just popped up. At least they do their own flying and not this contract nonsense!

Allegiant was a thanks but no thanks. I don't think they believed me when I said I was gonna park myself there (which I wasn't going to). So now it's stay here and go down with the ship...or PSA. If 14-08 keeps shrinking NY that might make a decision for me.

Some people like to be punched in the face and then say "I'm taking one of the team". But I'd say they're a part of the small minority.
Comparing those that get punched in the face and then say "screw you I'm outta here" with the guys that say "It's ok, I like getting beat. I'll take one for the team and stay for the principle" and putting a label on those that leave is kinda dumb. I think the FO's that are still at 9E are either those that can't get on with anyone else, haven't tried, think things will get better or are too lazy to improve their career progression. I don't think anyone is staying because they think "making a lateral move is like voting in a bad contract". It's pretty far fetched.

I'm not convinced it's that simple. Management has a lot of ulterior motives but beating up pilots so they leave probably isn't one of them.

Don't fool yourself, every single FO here could get hired at Compass/PSA or any other regional currently hiring. Making a lateral move, and getting hired at Compass like you did, is not difficult. Second, a lateral move is not a slam dunk career improving move. No one knows how this is going to play out, what are you doing to do next month if American reneges and Delta decides they aren't going to do business with Compass? Move on to the next regional and start over at 1st year pay again at regional #3? If you had it all figured out you wouldn't have wasted 6 years of your life at regional #1.

Good thing I figured it out and got out. It took me a while to realize 9E was a disaster and that it wasn't going to recover. I will be the first to admit I'm a little slow and for SURE wasted a couple of years when I could have ran the other way. Things were good for me from 2007-2011 XJ until I had to jump the fence to 9E. That's when the lightbulb went on over my head.
