I am more than relaxed. Actually threw in some humor above, in case you missed it.

Relax, man. The guy asked a question. Lyon knew the variable the guy wasn't accounting for and corrected it. Simple as that, nothing more needed to be said.

ETA: Just looked, and my Federal was exactly 25%. Doesn't matter what exemptions I claimed.

25% federal (IRS rules), then SS and Medicare, state (if applicable), ALPA (2% for easy math), and 401k (if so selected). That's a simple way for anyone to run the numbers. The retentions don't reference W-2 selections. If you pay above a 25% federal, you would owe (in theory), and if under, it's a return (once again in theory). Either check with your tax advisor (if applicable) or use the government site to determine gross earnings with bonus for your W-2 calculations. Hopefully, it's a mute point with the stated negotiations in payrates for all who are currently on payroll. For those new or newly joining, alpa has sent an email spelling this out a few times now. If you figure 50% net, you will either hit the mark or be happily surprised. Don't spend it all in one place.

I've said this before but I guess it needs to be said again. A lot of us new hires are just as or more experienced than the captains we are flying with. We just decided not to work for pennies, so we flew corporate instead until the money got right (it still isn't there, but it's getting close). It doesn't make us spoiled or ungrateful, we just know what we are worth.

This one speaks the truth!

I been reading all the back a forward on basic pay during training and my concern here is making base pay after OE.
-What is a typical monthly salary after training?
-How easy is to make an extra $1K a month?

As a holder of the equivalent of a Masters degree in flying (ATP), you should be able to fly the plane no matter what happens. I mean, what happens if you call for AP on at 600', and it fails to come on? Will you just abandon the departure procedure? Of course not. Have the PM hit the FD button, getting rid of all those distractions, and fly a heading and an airspeed.

Im turning in my certificates today good fellow.

Those are a lot of stupid questions but I'm sure, if allowed, the NMFC (its a group of old, stupid, pinnacle instructors that are mostly gone or banished to the phx training center) could create a scenario in the sim just for that story. I bring up that NMFC name because of the masters degree comparison, there was at least one old drunk lsu grad trying to sell that line of crap to pilots. Takes me back.

Something that stupid happens in the cockpit, followed by a little more stupidity, you do the best you can. Of course it's an internet story full of hyperbole, trying to make it as funny as possible, but take it seriously as I take your questions.

Harder to make extra cash on reserve, stupid easy to make extra cash once you get a line.

1) Other than the numbers previously provided, that is rapidly moving target. Variables include insurance (medical/vision/dental), marital status, uniform payback, ALPA fees (after one year), state taxes.

2) Very easy, if you have a line and live in base. A little tougher if you have a line and commute. Pretty challenging if you are on RSV and commute. Again, variable. But typically, there is 150% premium pay available every month on the trade board that people can pick up. Sometimes 200%, though the company tries to keep that to a minimum.

Haven't heard that in a while. The old killing the centerline lights when you were taking the runway on a type ride.

Ugh, flashbacks are painful. New guys have no idea how good they've got it.
