The guys above that are against PBS, have you actually had any experience with PBS?

 

You sure are concerned with Envoy and Envoy pilots, ain't ya?

 

I have actually heard very good things regarding PBS. It, above all else offers more flexibility in your desired schedule. I think those flatly opposed to it are more fearful of change then any real issue, although I don't want to put words into anyones mouth.

I have spoken to mainline pilots as well and they all seem to be in agreement that PBS is better, not perfect, but better then line bidding. This is of course a small sample size but I don't think it should be dismissed out right.

Will be interesting to see after #40 if management pushes for it as it is in our contract to start negotiating for it, assuming I have heard correct information.

 

You should be less concerned about PBS in general and more interested in how PBS would be handled at Envoy. PBS gives a company more control over your schedule making PBS at Envoy a very BAD idea. You are likely familiar with reserve at Envoy, imagine that, scheduleD one month at a time. Once you get to Line Holder Status, going to PBS will be an enormous hit to your QOL and Paycheck.

Beside, many of the benefits that can be derived from going PBS over hard lines can be achieved with Trip Trade, DTS and Conflict Bidding. Start asking your senior FAs if they like PBS. Not many will say yes.

I will give a different view. Envoy has to do everything possible to attract new hire pilots including giving you up to $22,200 within 15 minutes of the first day of class. In this climate they can't get away with anything close to the stated above. The new hire labor environment won't support it.

 

I have no understanding of what takes place on the 145 or CRJ. They may be beating you guys with chains. On the 175, the QOL is good. I used to work at another regional that gets quoted as having a good QOL and at this point they're pretty similar.

I have for 6 years. I agree with everyone saying won't help. As long as our trips are weak, we need more days of flying to get above mine line value. So let's say trips stay around 15- 18 hrs. 1st trip. 18hrs. 2nd trip. 17.50hrs. 3rd trip 15hrs. 4th trip 18 hrs.comes out to 68.50. what do you need, yep that's right here comes the next 4 day trip. That's how PBS doesn't help.

For those of that don't understand PBS, when bidding, all you're doing is bidding on trips already built. You have to build your line above or equal to min line value. PBS takes away all conflict, so your vacation, training are all put on your schedule before bidding (less days off). You can have vacation in a month and not really have any more days off then a person relative to you on seniority.

We have 0 PBS work rules for PBS. Those that say we will get them, show me where you come up with that, company will not give us a ton of rules to make this good for us and bad for them.

 

Are you familiar with the term 'garbage in, garbage out'? PBS will not fix QOL at Envoy; all it will do is transfer money from the pilot's pocket back to the company coffers. You must have good pairings for PBS to work as intended and comparing mainline PBS to a proposed Envoy PBS is absurd, simply due to the lack of variety in the pairings, among other things.

I tip my hat to the scheduling committee, who work very hard with the crap they are given, but Envoy has little variety, unless you consider noncommutable 4-days the spice of life. The only question is whether you will have two days off or three days off (plus commute) between them.
