Default New hire options, reserve, and line schedules

I was able to slide into a July class. I've been reading the threads and know the likely hood of LGA 145 is very real. I am being told that I was able to get a class fairly quickly (I had May and June options available) because I'm being hired as a "Near Direct Entry Captain" due to my military time and some 135 time I have. I don't quite meet the minimums for a Direct Entry Captain, so will I have the 175 as an option or will I be locked into the 145 based on my previous experience?

That being said, I was hoping y'all could elaborate on what reserve schedules and line schedules will most likely look like for both air frames, how quickly one could hold a line at any base, and probably the most common question, how quickly one could get to DFW.

Thanks!

If you are gonna be a almost DEC don’t plan on seeing DFW anytime soon. As soon as you upgrade you will be in a LGA crash pad commuting to standby for a very long time. Any extra money as a CA you earn will be taken by buying food and crash pad. Also, if you have a family don’t plan on seeing them for 20 days a month.

Even if you have the option of the 175, take the 145. When you have the captain mins, you are going to be displaced into the 145 anyways so might as well only learn 1 plane.

I disagree with the advice to ask for 145. Get the 175, go through training, pocket the type and the HUGE (months) amount of paid time off built into the 175 training footprint, then turn around and do the same thing on the 145 (much less time, a week or two) when they displace you.

That's not a bad way to look at it. However he would be leaving 5k on the table. But it may be worth it for an extra type.

Two type rides in 6 months? Good luck not getting those 2 planes confused!

I think it is. 175 type opens doors globally, and AA flies them as the ERJ-190. 145 type is essentially worthless beyond allowing you to do your job at Envoy.
