Yes, there is an issue with the company. But since you haven’t had the opportunity to be in a work group that is at a company with a contentious management group, you don’t understand how having an employee who does something that management allows and benefits only themselves and HARMS the REST of the workgroup feels.
And that’s is an issue with the INDIVIDUAL. If you want to do something to better yourself, go for it. UNLESS it is directly hurting those around you, which his actions were. Again, if the company is giving him an exception to the rules, then the complaint is with the company, not him. |

LOL him making videos is not hurting anyone... this is starting to get into snowflake / triggered / safe space territory.

Do you know the context of the situation and the SPECIFIC events that are being referred to? If you stay in aviation, or likely any business, you will find yourself in a position where management is trying to do everything they can against the employee group. Meanwhile an INDIVIDUAL is doing something that benefits himself and management because management allows it. Tell me you won’t be more than a little miffed at the INDIVIDUAL as well as the company.
And you seriously believe ‘management is trying to do everything they can against the employee group? If so, they’d seem to be the ones to be mad about. |

So one (1) of 2500 pilots is putting up videos that management believes might be helpful to them in recruiting new pilots (because it’s AA selling the tickets after all) and that sticks in your craw somehow?

But in this particular instance, yes those videos were aimed at the SAME (and biggest) market that Envoy was targeting for recruitment. I sure hope you don’t ever accept any benefit from a collective bargaining agreement and everyone who worked to make those benefits and conditions better for THE ENTIRE group. You need to find a nice mom and pop place to work where your wages and benefits are only based on what you can work out with them directly. |

You don’t get it. First, ANY mainline selling the tickets doesn’t have anything to do with recruiting.

Around this same time we had one or two pilots disciplined for YouTube content and a massive no social media campaign went into effect. We had constant letters and emails sent about social media and how we shouldn’t associate whatsoever with the company, going so far as to not even say you work for them in your bio. Ok fair enough, most companies have some sort of policy, but then SM got a pass, all the while the company decided to essentially void an LOA we had in place. So the OPTICS of this all was he was getting a social media pass because his videos in many ways acted like a recruitment message. When you couple that with him being able to earn additional income from this said venture, an opportunity that the rest of the pilot group is not afforded, people became irritated at the double standard and the videos acting as de-facto recruitment ads while the company was acting very much against the interests of the pilot group. So long story short, this isn’t about being snowflakes anymore than it is about his personal life, but rather rooted in very real issues. I am no longer even at this company but I was around when this happened and felt some more clarity needed to be added. I don’t imagine I will be back for more, however it would be slightly ignorant for people to just say everyone is being overly sensitive. Sure the issue has mostly passed, but at the time it was very real. |

Time to let it die, not continue a thread castigating the guy. One can, I suppose, nurse grudges until they die of old age, then have them stuffed and displayed in the den. But eventually, over the course of one’s life, the den becomes cluttered and people start to look at you strange. And that’s what is starting to happen. Let it go. |

Again, the gripe is against the company, NOT the individual. And if the issue has indeed ‘mostly passed,’ the reasonable thing would seem to be to LET IT PASS, not nurse a grievance against an individual who is NOT responsible for company policies or disciplinary actions against coworkers.

If you guys are right that the target audience is cadets, I think Swayne's videos have had a net negative effect on recruiting.
