Oh I agree there will people that will have to commute to hold CA. Just pointing out it will take 75 upgrading senior FOs to get 60 junior CAs to downgrade. Maybe that happens. Union email reads like it's a given. I dunno, I've never seen a bid like this before.
Majority of the 60 captains getting displaced can not hold any other CA status, so they will be displaced to FO. The few that can preference to the available vacancies will just nudge the line where the junior CA number ends up being. |

As a whole, this doesn't seem all that bad. 15 more CA vacancies than CA displacements. Seems WAY more about shifting staff to cover the shifting fleet than anything about up coming furloughs.
That said, direct entry captains are going get royally shafted on this bid. Senior FOs they used to fly with will upgrade to 175 first and when the DECs displacements are run, they'll get to be their FOs on the 175. That can't make for a fun 4 day. |

so does anyone see it as a lot of more senior CAs on the 145 preference over to 175, and they need enough 145 CAs to staff that plane, so they keep some DECs? I honestly don’t see that happening. But I’ve thought of it

Senior guys may bid over (questionable if they will), but the company will still displace the bottom 60 CAs (in the applicable bases). Theoretically, they could backfill behind the senior guys bidding across, but: A - that goes in seniority order too B - they’re not going to backfill except maybe BTs |
Unless you made it into Band C. DCL is going so senior, DCE going to DCL will experience a significant pay cut and a lower QOL. Sure you get the good packs in the summer, but you are not going to get the lines and OT you want for a very very long time.

Is that saying that the most junior ORD 145 Captain can’t lose their seat?

They will downgrade 60 CA's.
We can argue semantics but that’s what is going to happen. |
