I don’t think AA is going anywhere. Unlike TWA, there is no Carl Icahn on the horizon. That is a huge difference.

However, toss in a recession and you could show up to work at a place like that and find yourself furloughed or worse, find the doors locked. To give up a sure seat at American Airlines, for that….is the definition of insanity. AA isn’t going anywhere and is the closest thing to lifetime employment that you can find in the year 2020.
You want to talk about recession, Spirit pilots got a great contract in 2010, and order 75 Airbus in 2011. What was the legacies doing around that time?

Spirit ranked #6 while AA is at #7

We are not riding high now, we’ve been doing that for the past 8 years. I rather be in the left seat in a yellow bus than left seat of an RJ, but that’s just me incase something bad happens. If you don’t want to touch our contract because our 4-5 year CA are getting $250K+ 401K DC that’s fine. 22 NH came from Envoy last year, I’m curious what they have to say.

Yeah pretty much this. Spirit has better numbers and is setup financially much better than AA. Sure if you can put in a full 30 years at AA you are better off financially but much short of that, I bet you can make more at the ULCC.

Anyway, this isnt meant to be a Spirit sales pitch but rather an illustration that the flow and AA are not the only options people have. Each should make the choice for what is best for them. I have an app in and I am scheduled to flow soon, so let that sink in.

Same here, I’m not trying to tell anyone what to do. I’m just pointing out what Spirit did during the last recession. If I had a to flow today or take a class at ULCC, I would very likely take the flow. I just wouldn’t wait 2+ years to do it.

Fair point, except not really. The idea here is whether or not leaving the regional for Spirit is a better move, especially if you have 6+ years to flow. I dont think anyone would leave a legacy carrier for an ULCC unless there was some very specific reason to do so.

Anyway, my only point was that there are valid reasons to go to an ULCC that doesn't make the person an idiot like ThKooj or whatever their name is wants people to believe.

In what time frame? There are a couple dozen of formerly furloughed AA/TW and DL pilots at Spirit. Most were hired 05'-11' and did not accept call back. Probably not the answer you were expecting.
