Those “equipment related reasons” are nothing that AAG couldn’t choose to change. IDK for sure, but I doubt that every RAH plane flown for AAG has the overwater equipment. Envoy could change opspec and carry the equipment on just enough aircraft to cover the flying. Does it make logistics slightly more difficult, sure, but it can be done. Envoy had a choice of Canada or Caribbean. They chose the Great White North. They didn’t want the weight penalty for the overwater equipment. But again, I don’t think they would have to equip the whole fleet. But either way, it’s a strategic choice.

Swapping YX out of MIA would make sense. It would let YX consolidate in the northeast and see some new efficiencies in their scheduling. The same could be said for Envoy leaving LGA and taking all of MIA.

They can put life vests on every airplane and get 150 mile overwater. That would do the job, and wouldn’t add more than 200lbs to the airplane. It’s a simple change to the Ops Specs and doesn’t even require a trip to the pool.

RW I believe even sent an email stating it was specifically due to weight restrictions pertaining to Canada flying. The company didn’t feel it was worth it to lose revenue up north for some in the south.
Could this all change if AA pills republic out of Miami? Certainly.
