I don’t think there are many people that really pick up OT out of spite. From what I can tell, everyone picked up their normal amount of OT. There’s just not much flying out there, OT or otherwise.
There’s also very little going to RSVs because there are almost no delays. I can’t remember the last time I flew a leg that wasn’t both a terminating flight AND 20 mins early. It’s everyone’s right to use the contract to their benefit. That’s just how it is and I don’t contest that. Seniority is earned, and comes with privilege. Period. The end. There isn’t enough to go around right now and it will affect some, regardless of what anyone does. It’s just gross when someone rubs it in your face and brags about all of the money they’re making. With reduced flying, if you’re taking more than you need, who are you really screwing? |

When the furloughs start, can senior people choose to get furloughed as well? Why do they set a deadline for CSLOA applications? They should just keep the application open cause they have the option of approving the leave anyway....

I agree it would be nice if that was an option, as I have an opportunity to try another career field but it has about a 4 month lead time to get going in it. I would gladly take the 12 month deal or even a furlough to save someone who doesn't have that ability, however I still need to make money while waiting. This would allow another to keep their job while allowing me the time to decide if this other career is the right fit.

If they are going to approve the leaves in seniority order, they have to have some cutoff. They can keep offering again, but it probably just saves administrative hassle doing it once a month.
As for the furloughs: I used to be at an outfit that had a pretty good furlough clause. If they announced an involuntary furlough, they were required to simultaneously offer a voluntary one. It was equivalent to an LOA. Seniority, longevity, travel and health all continued as though you were active (except JS). Anyone who took the voluntary furlough, replaced an involuntary one. It saved quite a few involuntary furloughs. |
