We stay at some LaQuinta’s that are honestly nicer than some of the FourPoints and DoubleTrees; more modern, well-kept, cleaner, and always with a microwave and a fridge.

what LQ's would those be? Every single one has the same nasty carpet, same extremely cheap mattress, and same dirty bathroom in my experience.

Honestly, the La Quinta's I've stayed at here haven't been terrible (I know that brand can be though, just hasn't been bad here). So yeah. I'd rather be able to heat up my dinner while I'm changing out of uniform and unpacking my bag rather than doing that and THEN doing the long* travel to the lobby to heat up my food and then doing the long* travel back to my room to eat my now cold food due to the long* journey.
*hotels that seem most insistent on only having a microwave in the lobby have their own overpriced restaurant and place us as far away from the lobby as possible. Think about it. Flea bag hotel... flea bag *******s that are trying to make us pay more for our overnight is more like it. If you don't carry your own food you don't see it, I know. But it's real.

The LQ in HSV is very nice (Borat voice), had none of those problems. RDU isn’t bad either. Compared to our MEM or GRR overnights, I would take LaQuinta every time.

Okay all that is nice but location still does matter eapecialy for those of us that dont pack food for each trip or cant due to the hassle of commuting. LAW for example is a particularly terrible overnight for me since theres pretty much nothing around the hotel. I want hotels that are near some food options or maybe even a grocery store. Some of my favorites are CUU, TYR, and GRK and theres something for everyone. I hate the typical hotel by the highway with a gas station and nothing else we tend to stay at.

That GRR overnight hotel is gross. The carpets feel, how should I say, moist all the time, yet are dry. Yuck. It is a very bizarre place, with the mattress's sitting with an upward curve to them lol. Looks like you are laying down on a giant U.
Anyway, good luck on the hotel front.
