ORD is junior. Key variable is FO’s senior to you upgrading - get ready for a year or longer riding the very bottom in ORD. I don’t know how they are handling 950 hour applicants these days. They aren’t keen on DEC’s now and they may view a 950 FO who can bid for upgrade (and get it) immediately as something similar. Who knows, though! |

They don't seem to want them. Myself and a couple of friends are HTFOs with CJOs from last year. Still no class dates, even though people interviewing now are getting class dates for this summer.

They seem a bit timid on folks with long gaps recently. They used to hire anyway if the person was HTFO or DEC, but due to significant training and on-the-line issues, they seem to prefer folks with recent training or employment experience. I say that as someone with a gap myself who made it through - but saw many who struggled.
Do you (or anyone) know the current hiring bonuses, and stipulations for retention? Thanks |

When I spoke to a recruiter for Envoy at a job fair 2 years ago, they would not hire me into the right seat because I had 2,000 hours of 121 time. I was "forced" into the DEC program. My interview literally consisted of, "When can you start?" The DEC and/or HTFO program could be a great asset if they would just vet the people applying. I had been out of the 121 world for 24 years!!! Training was tough but myself and 9 out of the 11 DEC's in my class made it through. I've had 4 line checks over the last 1.5 years since I've been flying the line so the company has done their due diligence to weed out the bad apples. over 80 DEC's fired over that time...from what I've heard. But, we need HTFO's who WANT to upgrade due to the 1200-1400 hour (121 time) sandbagging FO's who are sucking at the company tit with the 750 hour CA pay and a cush quality of life who are waiting to get forced to upgrade. So, if you have 121 time and want to upgrade as soon as you're eligible, please keep applying and get on property ASAP!

Data point for you all, ~1200hr CFI OTS interviewed early June and received call for July 25 orientation this week. I assume they send more information/details closer to date?

Throughout training, I've heard instructors make comments about the performance of the last round of DEC they had in 2023-2024. It seems the company has a bad taste in their mouth about how they performed. I haven't heard of many new FOs washing out, but a lot of DEC hires either washed out of training or were fired for various performance-based reasons. If I had to guess, this may be why they're stalling on getting the previous 121 experience guys going.
When the going got rough 2008, etc…these guys bowed out and didn’t have to endure the pain in the industry that the rest of us did. And just like that when the bonuses came …..”I think I want to be an airline pilot after all…even though I haven’t flown in 10-20 years. That’s where the DEC problem originated. |
For those with upcoming interview...
