This pretty much sums up what I was going to respond with. There is a definite ripple effect of their decision to punch guys through CA training and put them online between vacancy bids.
Just because Pedro4pres is advocating sport bidding or whatever he calls it, doesn’t mean there’s some of us that want to move on up and out because we have other options once we tick certain boxes. The whole street CA thing delays that, even if it’s only by 2-3 months it’s still has an effect.

How is having street CAs delaying your upgrade?

Someone junior to him was able to upgrade (out of seniority) in an upgrade class spot that could have been his (and a number of others who have their bids in since the last bid closed in January). Why our union is allowing this is beyond me.

I personally have no problems with street CA’s, but if they want to send street CA’s right into the CA seat just run a bid monthly so everyone else that wants to upgrade that meets the hours also has the opportunity to goto class. Obviously they don’t want to run monthly bids for the obvious reasons that you pointed out earlier.

By not running a bid and putting street CA’s in class ahead someone who otherwise meets the upgrade requirements but is simply waiting on a vacancy bid. Let’s say someone hits their 1000 hours the day after the dec/jan bid was run, they had to wait 3 months for the next bid. In the meantime someone else who just joined goes through CA training and is on the line before them.

If we need street Captains so bad, maybe it should be negotiated for something the pilot group needs. This is the kinda nd of leverage we have been waiting for. Please don’t come on here all clueless and say “I don’t mind having street Captains”

Our contract allows street CAs. I don't see how we can use this as a negotiating tactic. The only negotiating power we have is to leave. Every other thing we have tried to do doesn't work.
