Can’t lie to you but i have alittle bit of the shiny jet syndrome so i’ve always wanted to get the 175, but at this point, my priority is to get Houston as a base since, i assume, it’s going to be alot easier for me to commute to there from Florida, and i might decide in the near future to move there since it’s not that different regarding the weather and the cost of living. The WO have been tickling me recently, because of the flow, but i’m not really after that as my 4-5 year plan is to fly a heavy cargo bird.
So any thoughts you guys would have about this would be much appreciated.
Thanks

I have had a very good experience here. I feel like I made the right choice coming here last summer. I see nothing but huge potential from this company going forward. Outside of all that the people here are great. E175 will probably slow down and be limited to ORD until more aircraft are given to us but E145 you can pretty much get any base you want.

One thing to consider is that commuting from FL to IAH will be tough. There are a bunch of really senior United pilots making the same commute and you could very easily get bumped off of numerous flights. Also, unless you don’t have a degree, the heavy freight world isn’t that great. That big airplane loses its appeal pretty quickly when you’ve been on the road for two weeks and you’re heading to the sandbox in the middle of the night on a military charter. Freight is great if you can get on with FedEx or UPS, but if Atlas or Kalitta is your goal, those long trips are tough on family life and the kids. If you don’t have a degree, and have no plans to get one, I’d say that something like Kalitta would be better than spending eternity in regional purgatory. Either way, since you’re just starting out, fly hard, keep a clean record, and build a resume. You have some time to figure out where to go next.

I think the 737 deal hasn’t been confirmed yet. And i’m not too picky about the 175 to the point that i would go to Mesa. I believe XJT is way better regarding different things. I’m starting to lean more towards the 145 now since it has more blocks and i can get the base i’m going to bid for in a short period of time. Thanks for the suggestion though

I have about 4-6 semesters remaining for me to get my bachelor but I don’t have time for it now and I don’t see it coming within the next 2 years. That’s why my goal is Atlas mainly or SouthernAir or ofcourse Kalitta. And thanks for the heads up about the FL.-IAH commuting that was good to know.

Don’t let not having a degree box you into a second tier career. There are plenty of affordable online options to finish your degree. The high paying airlines are just starting the big hiring wave. Don’t be left out, and don’t leave a ton of money on the table with a HUGE difference in QOL because you don’t think that you have time to get a degree. Without it, you can scratch the big money airlines off your list. You aren’t going to have the hours to be marketable for a while. Make the degree a top priority and give yourself better options.

For sure will do. I’m just waiting to get more settled and will start looking at the online degree options. Does it have to be a bachelor? Or associates work with them the same way ? Because i might think of transferring my credit hours towards an associates as it would be less time and effort consuming giving that i’ll be flying at the same time.
Airlines that want degrees will want the Bachelors degree.
