Re: Aspen
Even if you have an appropriate aircraft or the airport evolves through construction the wild card is actually setting up an ASE program with the FAA.

united decided this and to think we could stop it is pretty stupid

He can cite me. I'm at Republic. We're short. Not woefully so, but we wouldn't be able to staff another 25 new planes.

FYI: The single engine go-around performance is not the only restriction in KASE:
"- ARPT RESTRICTED TO MAXIMUM ACFT WINGSPAN OF 95 FT."
Airport is expanding rwy and terminal and will be able to handle "737 sized planes" according to Aspen Times around 2023.

Edit: Spoke a little too soon...this plan I dont think has been approved just yet.

I don’t think Expressjet went through all that trouble for nothing. Let’s see how this all plays out when our new contract information becomes known to us.
Trans States officially said that they are shutting down...

As far as Regional staffing goes, I wouldn't say OO is short-staffed and you can't even get a class date less than 6-7 months out right now. I've heard they are also starting to get more strict with their pilot selection. I'm not sure how accurate that is though.

Having said that, they better keep it up because there is a ton of flying coming their way from American, Delta and United this year.

The pilots signed the new contract a year ago because 25 175’s would be delivered. Is that not “bait and switch”.

Shame on you?

What about the recruiters who described the Aviate program as a direct path to United?

Regardless how you try to spin this the new hires will see what happened and will think twice about coming. That’s bad news for you, myself and others working here.

How do you propose getting them through the door?

New hires not coming is great news for labor. Let's hope it happens. Clearly nobody on this forum has ever been an employer on any type of scale. A management team has two choices when they can't find talent and have consistent attrition, either incentivize / raise the pay and trim expenses/boost revenue to minimize fluctuations in net income, or plan for their eventual insolvency and chapter 11 filing. Or in Republic's case, a solvent chapter 11 filing, which is more unusual but cleans up the balance sheet nicely. No new hires is good news, that's the only way the pilots will see gains. This is a for-profit business, they aren't going to pay more if they don't have to.

No doubt about it. This is definitely good for our pilot group. And thankfully our MEC is not out trying to encourage people not to come here. In my opinion doing that allows the company to blame the union for the lack of new hires and hampers negotiations. When the lack of new hires is brought on by the company itself (getting rid of the shiny new jets) they will be asking us to schedule the meeting to re-negotiate the contract. This puts us in a position of actual strength instead of a ****ing match. We are in a good position right now. When the company comes to the table we need to settle for nothing less than very significant gains. Anything short of that we should not hesitate to vote down. Envoy plus one or GTFO
