Will ExpressJet survive this?
 

Wanting to be able to dump the 50 seat fleet and getting UAL pilots to agree to the scope changes (more 175’s) to make that happen are two different things. He also never said that he wants to shut XJT down. That’s just the conclusion that everyone is making.

Kirby has always wanted Scope relief, and he always will. I think that he was serious about eliminating 50 seat flying, but I don’t think he meant immediately. It will most likely play a part in the initial recovery and then be phased out as we come out of this over the next year or two. He has an option to get more regional rj’s, but he hasn’t exercised it yet. I don’t think that he wants to see anyone shut down, but when they decide to phase out the only aircraft that a company operates, it leaves them with few options.

Park the 145s
Round up all the UAL-owned 175s and bring them in-house
Merge C5 and XJT
Staple that ist to the UAL list.

All one happy family, no 50-seaters, no scope relief.

Yeah, a staple behind all of the furloughed UAL pilots is going to make everyone happy, right?

Would you rather have the same outcome and no staple? Unless the recovery is fairly quick, United will most likely retire the 756 and furlough, while operators of 50 seaters go away.

I am guessing anyone who talks about us being on the UA Seniority list is only joking, if not I would challenge your intellectuality.

United has been adamantly against flow, they’ll never go for a staple, even now.

When furloughs are possible mainline pilots talk about “how nice it would be to have you guys on the list”. Otherwise it’s “you’re not good enough to be on our list”.

I agree with your statement completely. It would solve their problems though with scope though. Slap everyone on at the bottom of the list in seniority order, and seat lock for 1 year CA and 2 years as an FO with modest regional payrates. I highly doubt any current mainline pilot will be begging for the chance to fly an outdated and cramped aircraft. However, this is a way the lifers still get their cushy schedules/pay, and if they decide to move off that airframe, it’s not like they are displacing anyone on a larger aircraft due to their low seniority. As for everyone else, we were already going to start at the bottom of the list once we moved to that final gig anyways. Oh.. and make all new hires fly the crappy old aircraft first as we have to maintain the “if I had to suffer, you have to suffer too” aviation mentality.
