“Some of the reduction will be permanent in terms of fleet simplification and purity. This certainly puts us in jeopardy as an airline that solely flies 50-seat aircraft.”

“As of late, block hours have heavily favored the 70-seat carriers: Republic, Mesa, and SkyWest. In fact, Republic and Mesa have been flying about double the block hours as ExpressJet, CommutAir, Air Wisconsin, and GoJet. SkyWest is flying almost more block hours than all other UAX subs combined. In August, SkyWest was awarded 38,000 block hours, while we received a meager 5,000.”

“As for ExpressJet, we are somewhere between picking up the pieces of carriers that fail around us, being a carrier that doesn’t make it, and anywhere in between.”

It’s just insane to me we failed to staff those 175’s and gave them up without a fight...some say it’s because of the senior pilots calling in sick and some say it’s just not being able to staff them. So so so sad that we got that opportunity and couldn’t even keep them for a year.

“Shirley” you don’t believe that. Pilots had nothing to do with the decision. Our management had nothing to do with it either.

Either way, we had it and now we don’t. United prefers the 70 seaters and we no longer have them.

I don’t think it had to do with either tbh.

with TSA failing they needed someone to take over their flying somewhat quickly. United Didn’t think we could handle the 175s as well as the 36 145s

i could be wrong but I really don’t think management wanted to get rid of the 175s at all.

That had nothing to do with it. It all started when Mesa made a major play and offered to buy the additional 175’s instead of leasing them. After that we were stuck only going to have 25 of them until there was UAL scope relief. I think we lost the rest of the 175s because UAL owed Skywest some money and they negotiated a planes for cash deal or something like that. UAL started to fell the impacts of Covid early and pulled their investor guidance in February. Kirby wanted to keep cash on hand and that was a way to do it.

As an outsider with an honest question, have there been any murmurs from the union about pay concessions?

I can't comprehend how it benefits UAL to be a stakeholder in two regionals that fly the same equipment.

.

No we haven't heard, but the Union wont share any concession agreements until after they have made them.
United owns all the jets that EV and C5 operate anyway. And in the big scheme of things the amount of money that UAL has in Expressjet and CommutAir combined total is less that what they have lost in days worth of COVID operations. And currently UAL probably wouldn't be able get its investment back from either one.

AA is in a similar situation. Both Envoy and Piedmont operate the E145 and both are wholly owned. The only difference is it seems like AA had decided to fight for survival during the pandemic and UAL is hiding in the shelter waiting for someone to save them.

Regionals are a joke. Do whatever you can to get out. JetBlue, Spirit, Cargo. Whatever it takes. We should of all bailed when we had the chance.
do whatever you can to get out. There is nothing worse than being under the mercy of daddy United. I thought XJT was their premier regional carrier... what happened to that ****...? XJT was better off with the 175’s but unfortunately XJT have an incompetent.
