Management explained in a town hall that letters would be sent to everyone strictly to satisfy reporting requirements. The union recently told them they should be more selective with these notices. I have not received one but am expecting one despite being relatively high on the seniority list for this reason. Management has been surprisingly forthcoming about their plans to handle the worst case scenario but were also clear that they did not expect that to be the most likely scenario. Of course a management group lying to their employees in order not to create a panic is not exactly without precedent but I’m comfortable giving them the benefit of the doubt at the moment.
The only thing C5 has going for it as compared to XJT is cost. We’re a much smaller airline and we never did have or manage to finish negotiations on a better contract so we’re all still making the same scraps as we were at the end of the last bust. Of course none of that really matters if UA goes bankrupt or just decides to get out of the 50 seat game as Kirby has threatened on more than one occasion recently.
