Heard from one of our chiefs the other day that the hiring for the year is over after May. Hoping it's not true!!!

Really? Crap... rumors have been really consistent as to 500-700 pilots this year... Well, it is what it is... They are definitely short right now, but maybe they are gearing up for the summer. Hope I got in early enough to hold a line or at least a relief line by the time all the new hires make their way into the system. If I get stuck on short call reserve somehow I'm going to have to kill myself.

Just FYI this is being discussed on the expressjet forums and there doesn't seem to be much truth to it. While it's possible, the last Ops update from Charlie said hiring was full steam ahead for this month and in fact:

"The Recruiting department is also preparing for the hiring demand we anticipate in the near future. As pilots at mainline airlines retire, the economy improves, and rule changes are implemented by the FAA, we're certainly going to see demand increase."

For now I'm treating this as pure speculation.

Ok probably gonna kicked in the junk for not searching, but I have a quick, potentially dumb, question about ExpressJet bases. I noticed on APC that CRJs are listed under the Expressjet link which I assume are the the the CRJs from ASA? If so, can you get based at DTW if hired by ExpressJet?

hi -

not a dumb question at all. Currently 'ExpressJet Airlines' formally known as 'ASA' is not hiring on the CRJ's. However 'ExpressJet Airlines' formally known as 'ExpressJet Airlines' is hiring on the ERJ side. With that comes the ERJ Pilots CBA, and EWR, ORD, IAH, and CLE. Good Luck!

FlyPurdue has it exactly right. I'm commuting to EWR from Atlanta, and am waiting with baited breath for the first chance to bid to the CRJ side, but that will likely be at least a few years, sadly enough. Plus, Atlanta will probably be pretty senior...

I thought about trying to hold out until the CRJ (former ASA) side starts hiring, but it looks like that could be a while. Commuting + reserve = not much fun, but things are moving along pretty good here, at least for now. Hopefully it keeps up.
