I agree and I am glad they are! I sure hope none slip between the cracks.
Still, if you ask me, I think a 1500 hour whiz-kid who got hired at 500TT and has barely over 1000hours of 121 is not exactly the best candidate to be put on the left seat of a 50-pax jet, while being assisted by another 500hour whiz-kid on the right seat.
I'd personally feel safer if the CA had 3000+ hours...but maybe I'm just being too picky...
What do you think? (not bashing or being sarcastic, just looking for your opinion)
I still can't wrap my mind around XJT's rediculously low hiring mins. If they are the best of the best, why can't they raise mins to 1000/1200 and 200multi?

I've flown with both sides. There are times, more often than not, that I have total faith in the CA, but there are also times when I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them.
Low times are a reasonible argument but experience under NORMAL conditions comes quick. So as far as I'm concerned, our training is great, just like most airlines. If the airplane is flyable you'll be fine.
ridiculuos is how it is spelled

I'm not saying that they are the best of the best... just because someone has the time , one might feel safer but that doesn't mean a thing, yeah sure they are more experienced in NORMAL flying conditions. It doesn't mean anything on how they would react when SH!T hits the fan.

I don't know about you, but when the sh!t hits the fan I'd rather have a 3000hour captain vs. a 1500-2000hr one, ceteris paribus.
PS. point taken on my ridiculous spelling error, but 'reasonible' ain't reasonable either

Most new-hires in a recent class had more than 1000TT, and that is a survey of 32 people. The minimums may be lower but the people getting hired are generally higher.

Jumpseat priority should remain unchanged for OAL pilots.
To weigh in on the "experienced" upgrade issue: Nothing new to see here. I've flown with senior guys at both of my airlines that scared the heII out of me, as well as junior captains who were extremely competent and I would rather have running the show during a crap storm. This argument can be extrapolated to all of aviation: The standards are the standards. But yes, ceteris paribus (which is never the case, palgia ), more experience is better than less.
