I get what you're saying, but you need new hires for upward movement.

Seniority isn't how many are behind you. Seniority is how close you are to the top.
To reference other posts, the MD is a shrinking fleet. The MD10s are forecasted to be gone in a few years. The "displaced" MD pilots without a home will most likely jump to equal or higher paying jobs (WB FO or CA).
Therefore, as senior bubbas (senior to the OP) lose MD positions (or even Airbus if they go away too), they will push the other WB fleets more senior and some folks may get pushed down to the 757. This is precisely what happened when the 727 closed and 777 FOs with less than about 8 years seniority were bumped off the aircraft.

There would be no "top" without more guys to put on the bottom. Saying you move to the top just because sounds like something a guy who has been senior for a long time would say

System Seniority is great, or it would be with more frequent seat bids.
Seat Seniority, and trip quality/reserve utilization rates are what drive your QOL
I'd venture a guess that Reserve relative Seniority varys wildly between the fleets. Reserve tends to be popular with the Memphis bro's when they're not being used much, been awhile, but I can still recall seeing one guys calendar filled with 28 R days

To the original post.... I have been on property for two months(MD-11) and I have a total of 85 individuals below me in overall seniority which is incredible. When you look at the difference between the MD-11 fleet to the 767 fleet there are twice as many individuals below my relative seniority number on the 767 fleet. Not sure how that plays out, I'll defer to the experienced pilots on here, but it does show how aggressive they have been in hiring into the 767.

My hunch ... (it's worth what you paid for it);
I suspect the Airbus has very high maintenance costs and the 767 is a good replacement.
I suspect that the MD will be around for a very long time. It would be nice if we could get them to reconfigure it so that the lav is in the cockpit?

As a pax guy who has to make a whole production out of using the lav I would do anything to be able to be just get up and go anytime. I don't care if the lavs out on the wing lol.
