I am also waiting to 60 so I don't have to take the penalty, although I don't have my high 5 and don't have enough years to get to 25. I may be able to get my high 5 though if the MEC and doesn't give away our A plan.

"It only costs money"

Thats the problem with this entire discussion. The company drew their line in the sand on our retirement. There is absolutely no reason for them to add one penny to their costs in regard to our A fund until the next contract negotiations.

This pipe dream of increasing our A or B plan benefits until then are just that, pipe dreams.

And even if the unicorn consultant could increase our A plan benefits and reduce the company's costs at the same time the company won't do it because then they would have to explain to the other 200,000+ employees whose pension was frozen in 2008 that they were going to increase our benefit while theirs' remains frozen.

It isn't going to happen. It isn't a matter of affordability, its a matter of corporate perceptions and perceived fairness.

Our redline was vacation and PBS, theirs was the A plan. I don't see that changing outside of our next section 6 negotiations.

Oh, it can change, but in no way for the better. I'm expecting a complete decimation of our retirement, and a vote in favor of doing just that, due to a skewed road show series.

Yes, you are correct. I am also afraid that the brain trust is going to find a way to give away our perfectly viable A plan, which will go down in union history as the greatest self imposed wound ever.

With an anticipated 200 per month retiring until 2030, I think it gives some more leverage to negotiating an improvement to the A Plan

200/mo. x 12 years x 12mo./yr = ~29,000 retirements??? (approximately 4,000 current pilots?)

D*mn! That's a LOT! Must be a typo?

So you think more Pilots retiring increases the leverage for the company to increase the cost of pilots retiring?

Yes it does because every company out there is hiring, so if classes are not being filled then itís time to sweeten the deal. They need to make it way more attractive than the Majors. Giving away the A Plan will surely push away some potential candidates. I donít know about you but that was the most attractive thing about FedEx in my view.
