Wow I had no idea a same equipment base transfer could take that long. Is that because they hired in right after a system bid so they didn’t have the opportunity to bid on a different base? Or was it because they meter people from leaving bases too quickly?

Yes.

The combination of long times between system bids (and no option to base transfer before one) and the metering of pilots to the new base once the bid closes.

Both. Our system bidding is the worst in the industry.

Should we go back to seniority automatically setting your training date like 2015? No choice. You just go in seniority order? Should we do smaller bids? 2 year NB and 3 year WB Captains will be a thing of the past then. The only reason this is occurring currently is because senior pilots can choose to delay training once awarded a vacancy.

According to the UA thread and DL thread they have the worst system bidding rules.

I see most of the issues directly linked to the expectations that many have of unrestricted airplane and seat movements regardless of training throughput abilities.

Oh really? And in the meantime, a pilot coming back from an FDA gets to skip senior pilot and train before in their preferred seat while they wait years for a training slot and get paid and a lower rate.

There are more choices than the ones you mention. The current system is a bid to get your name on a list to bid. We can cut out the middle man.

UA and DL pilots at least go to training within a few months of their system bid, and if the company delays it, they will start getting bypass pay. They also have multiple bids per year, and can change bases much faster than we can.

We still have 757 pilots from bid 20-02 (two years ago, almost) that got awarded 777 FO and won't go to training until 2023... they are still getting narrowbody FO pay when literally over 1000 newhires since then are getting widebody FO pay.

you tell me which system is worse....

2-3 year WB captains would still be a thing with a better bidding system. The senior pilots would just wait until they could hold a line in the left seat before bidding CA.

How does DL have 2-3 year wide body capts and they hold more bids than we do? Not sure what you were getting at there.

Brother just started year 4 and he is left seat 75/76...so occasional widebody captain! Not 3 years but pretty darn quick.
