Man, it was so bad. He has a future in politics for sure. All I remember was that he wanted to be a pilot, and his grandma was proud of him. Also, we are right sized, however we have an imbalance in pilot distribution.

I meant to say "greater" profitability. We ALL know that Fedex is profitable but this Wall Street appeasement DRIVE initiative is all about shrinking the airline into greater profitability. All I'm saying is that if they actually follow though on this plan, which they certainly can with our Swiss cheese SCOPE clause, then upgrades will be nonexistent for a loooooong time.

On the other hand, we are only one nasty global virus away from another COVID repeat where we get to be called on by management to step up to the plate and save the world again in exchange for a lot of pats on the back...

Furlough of 1000 pilots next month is an impossibility based on 4a2b or 2c. I'm saying that if Fedex were to loose a portion of the USPS contract, we would have a massive overstaffing problem added to the one we currently have but the company would still need to jump thought the hoops of 4a2b prior to furlough if I"m not mistaken. If the airline ends up being shrunk down to the size that would only support 4500 pilots, then 1000-1500 would need to go one way or another, voluntary or involuntary. I'm not saying any of this will happen, just saying it's a possibility inlight of the current corporate structure of downsizing.

I don't believe we are that overstaffed. I'm just arguing your numbers are not correct.

With the last bid we didn't fill all of the Airbus and MD11 Captain spots and someone who'd been here a few months got a 757 CA spot. That being said, we are supposedly shrinking the Bus, 757 and MD lists. Some people stay on those airframes for the layovers they get so who knows. I'd guess that if you're hired here tomorrow that you'd be a CA here in 5 years.
Things aren't as bad as some are making it out to be. They'll rebalance the list by upgrading 757 CAs to 767 CAs and shrinking MD and Bus lists. My guess is that very few are displaced but that they don't hire for the rest of the year. Maybe next year too. For now the musical chairs have stopped and I'd take a job at a legacy or UPS over us because of that.

Under the current overstaffing and retirement rates, I see 7-8 for NB and 10-12 for WB. If fedex were to loose some portion of the postal contract which comes up for renewal in the next year or so, you could easily tack 2-3 years to those timelines. Probably about what the guys that were hired in 07 were facing. I would not wanna be a new hire here, camping out on reserve in a Memphis crashed dodging bullets for the foreseeable future... This is not a far fetched outcome with the current management strategy of shrinking the company into profitability. I predict a sizable voluntary exodus for those with 1-2 years on the property. I think a lot of guys are waking up to reality...

A friend who works in a management position at Express told me ITU training slots are going unfilled because of the lack of instructors on the right equipment. Hence the FCIF recently.
My contact says they’ve not heard anything about furloughs. 😀
We are parking some MDs because of fuel efficiency and replacing them with 767/777 where applicable. 😦
My opinion, since they just posted for instructors on the 767/777, a new crew posting/System Bid will follow shortly, maybe next month. That will give them enough time to start training for the instructors.
