ASL, Scope, and You

Notwithstanding any other provision of the Agreement, the Company may continue to interline, co-load, code-share, part charter and en- ter into block space agreements with other carriers to move freight and service in International (outside the contiguous 48 states) markets as required . Within the Domestic system (the contiguous 48 United States) the use of the above shall be done only: (1) when necessary to expedite or (2) when economically necessary, unless otherwise agreed to by the parties .

I'm new here but it is unbelievable to me that we have been under ALPA for multiple contracts and we have this weak of scope. No international protections and clauses like "economically necessary" for the domestic stuff that is supposedly protected. We must fix this now!! Pay rates are for the present, but scope is our future!

This is laughable. I hope you don't end up at DL,UA or AA and realize they furlough or have economic swings. Did you do any research? And now, you just figure this out? So scope was your ONLY reason for coming to FedEx? I don't know how you are going to make it through a career of contract negotiations at any carrier.

Edit: Scope was not the reason to come to FedEx. You seem to have phrased that backwards. But without a strong section 1, and no job, or at best a career full of significant stagnation, the rest of the contract doesn’t matter. There’s a reason it’s the FIRST section.

Promise you I did plenty of research. I just didn’t realize our scope ONLY covers domestic provisions. Just because this place has never furloughed doesn’t mean they never will. And if mgmt starts running this the way DHL does with maximization of contractors outside the EU, that very well may be exactly what causes this place to furlough for the first time ever. Don’t be naive. We are far from invincible here. This is about far more than contract negotiations for many of us new guys.
All you “FedEx has never furloughed before” sheep need to wake up and realize this isn’t the same company.

I am aware of that provision in the CBA. How much cargo do you believe can be transported via interline, co-load, code-share, part charter....? Do you believe the company can utilize that provision to replace our international network? I believe it would be very inefficient and require the wet lease of the entire aircraft.
