There are a lot of ways to send the pension into distress without Fedex going out of business. What do you think would happen if Fedex split up the corp and put the fund in one company and sold it off or let it go bankrupt? There are multiple ways to get rid of hte pension without destroying the corporation.

Tuck, You should do some more research on how our A fund is held and how it is funded and the firewalls congress put in place so that corporations can’t raid it and leave the government/PBGC with the liabilities.

If you don't think a "business friendly" republican trifecta in government could/would unwind those "firewalls" just as fast as they went up you're mistaken. The current rules ain't the previous rules and may not be the future rules. Your confidence is misplaced.

That said, I would like to keep the pension just to keep it diversified. My 401k ain't guaranteed either.

Those of you under 55 would be wise to treat your pension like social security.

Maybe I am wrong but I think their expectations were not so lofty.

I wonder if AA/DAL/UAL pilots say this to each other?

The hype was very strong in the years prior to the pandemic too.
