The above is correct. The only thing you're being naive about is the idea that we can fix the language.

MAYBE (and I'm still not sure it would work) we could add the company's favorite contract line to our side of 4a2c. "At the ASSOCIATION's discretion" 4a2c may be implemented to prevent or delay furlough.

I still wouldn't trust them not to pressure us into it with bad information and strongarm tactics though.

If you really look back the airlines have been crap since deregulation. Only since the gov allowed all the mergers and reduced competition have their balance sheets improved.

United had great pay rates from 1999 until after 9/11.

just one. thanks for answering all my questions, I was really curious about the history of airline balance sheets. too much south Florida sun for you I guess.

tldr; FedEx wasn’t the place to be until 9/11, then airlines started hiring again and the same happened again circa 2015. COVID hit, short ego boost for the boys and back to pre 9/11.

secrets out, it’s not the place to be. getting beat down day to day by management, bad culture, and a terrible contract to soothe anxieties of furlough aren’t worth it.

Our first two contracts had it stated in 4a2b that it was to prevent or delay a furlough. When the company implemented it for the first time, we grieved that it wasn't allowed because the company wasn't following the intent. The arbitrator felt differently, so, like Merle stated, the language needs to state something like after an association approved early retirement offer, offers for leaves of absence, and only with the approval of the association can 4a2c be implemented.

I first read this as “dissecting frog”. I chuckled a little bit. Then I realized I really might need those glasses now. Please don’t tell my AME.

We don’t need the language at all. We need to just redline it all. They don’t have the seniority list organized to allow a furlough in the first place. They haven’t for at least the last 20 years. Their system bids are not flexible and are ridiculously cumbersome. It would take them at least two years to re-organize the junior people who might suffer a furlough. They’re not gonna do that. So a furlough is not a threat. And if it’s not a threat, then we don’t need language to mitigate it. Redline it and call their bluff.

and what’s it going to cost to redline it? The company has created an item for us to spend negotiating capital on to get rid of…I’m with you. We don’t need it. But they are going to make us pay huge to get rid of it because it’s a cash cow for them obviously. Or we just hold the line and pray the packages all come back. Let’s hope it works out

We are paying every day as it is. The going in position should be that it's not industry standard, it was intended as a benefit to us as much as it was them, and we have ALREADY paid for it.

It was even worse than that; if an applicant had an internal recommendation, they *weren't* being given an interview.
