"Executive referral" puts people on fast track at most corporations. In this case it probably helped Victoria and her husband and I venture to say every company has a share of those who were helped by top executives. Don't blame them at all, if you could use those kind of connections - wouldn't you?

FWIW...I have seen legacies, executive referrals, and a host of internals, females, minorities, military and civilians...all turned down. Generally hiring percentages are good, but in over a dozen years helping prepare folks for interviews the few turned down have run the gamut of experiences, backgrounds, and ethnicities.

Ain't no "automatic" here. While its frustrating to see good people get rejected, it also appears to me that once you get in the interview you still have to execute. And if someone is working the line next to you in the cockpit--well--they made it. They did well enough at the interview to secure the job. Nobody handed them the job without making them jump through the wickets.

Executive referral, seniority #1 for a sponsor and flown with Victoria, check airman, sim instructor and a degree, rEAL pilot.

Many of us here had some serious buddy help in getting the interview. May not work well now, but for much of FedEx's history, that was the way to get the interview. Can't really fault anyone who still gets an advantage.

One thing I have seen is hiring policies change. Usually seem to mirror CP job tenure. If you don't like the current system...it will probably be different in 18-24 months. That bad news is that doesn't help your friends who want a job now.

I don't believe that Fred Smith honored requests from VIP's to get their kids or acquaintances pilot jobs. Years ago I saw a letter from a congressman, asking Fred to hire one of his children, who met all the FedEx requirements. Scribbled across the congressional letterhead, which the letter was written on, was a note from Fred, saying to just put the guys application in with the rest and to give it no more weight than anyone else. I was always impressed by that.

It was a reply to Mr. N. regarding "executive referral recommendations".
Point being that this isn't unique to fdx, it applies to all businesses. If you know someone high up it'll probably help you. Period!. ..common sense if you think about it - if you could get that kind of help you'd definitely ask for it, wouldn't you?
At Pinnacle the assumption was she had a class date waiting for her. Not if but when? .and it actually took a little longer than we all thought it'd take but then again, no one was hiring at the time.
Not arguing for or against this reality - simply stating that this is how the world functions out there. Connections, and especially connections high up, make a huge difference.

I would guess that most folks reading these forums don't know who Victoria and her husband are.

This is the only Victoria I know, and I couldn't care less about the husband.....
