Tough guys ...


I'm hearing a lot of, "I'm a tough guy, but there aren't enough tough guys to make a second push for an acceptable TA worth the time it might take."

If so many of us consider ourselves to be tough guys, why do we perceive so many of our peers to be weak?


Sure, there will always be the outliers who can't see beyond tomorrow, and operate selfishly as individuals. They get a lot of press, but I submit they are in the minority. I think most of us are just as tough as I am, and will do the right thing. We simply need an opportunity to display our resolve.


Have we already forgotten how successful the informational picketing event was?

We had this exact conversation at the RoadShow. I'm a self described "Tough Guy".....but I'm voting Yes.

I didn't go to informational picketing as I was out flying. I will submit that there is a big difference between low-risk informational picketing and the idea of giving up (Risk) of real pay increases (Whether or not you think it is above or below or just at a COLA).....money in your pocket.

Who is weak among us? Those that clamored to see the TA and that they had a "right" to see it, and then complain that it should have never made it past the MEC. Yes I have heard those guys. I think some of the "leaked info" soiled the process and circumvented the process. What I see from this pilot group in some quarters is a lack of patience. I am not confident we have a pilot group that can unify behind a long drawn-out fight if a good portion couldn't wait the two weeks to find out what the MEC decided.

A lot of people are continuing to whip themselves up and obsess over this vote. Let's let the process happen.

You're my perfect example. You're a tough guy, but you're convinced everyone else (or at least the overwhelming majority thereof) is too weak to fight.

Why do we have such a low regard for each other?


I believe that's an inaccurate perception. I believe the vast majority of us will, when given the opportunity and guidance, stand up and boldly do the right thing.

I have yet to talk to anyone who said if the vote went opposite to their vote they would not support the majority. To a person they've said, I'll support the outcome, whatever it is. I believe that even those who voted Yes will step up and do the right thing when we are asked to take whatever steps are deemed appropriate to reattack this negotiation to achieve a better product.

It's too early to throw in the towel. Have confidence in your brothers and sisters.

On this site, APC, 2011 interim TA poll showed intentions of

59.6 % NO
24.6% Yes

After vote poll showed 60/40 NO/YES of APC


Actual final vote was 68/32 YES/NO

I think the difference in APC polls versus actual results is that anyone can vote in an APC poll. If I were an UPS, Delta, SWA...heck, just about any other airline pilot, I'd be tempted to come over and vote no. I'm sure the Delta guys would like company, and UPS pilots believe our contract directly impacts their contract. It might. So why not stir the pot a bit.

Exactly.

The Jetflyers poll should be a little closer to reality. 347 total votes so far:

NO.......................56%
YES......................30%
HAVEN'T VOTED.....14%
NOT VOTING............1%

I know it adds up to 101%, but the 'not voting' are only 2 people, and I am guessing the poll must only add up whole percentage numbers.
