Not a thing. But when the Union sells the contract as the best we are going to get, and then the company posts a bid showing how short they are , lets just say we had leverage. Its hard to buy the Union statement that this contract was the best we could have gotten. Wet leasing, vacation buy backs in all seats, adding 200 additional slots to cover peak and expansion. Hey, the company is so worried about pilot trip trading and quality of life, they added 200 more pilots. I won't be wearing a Union lanyard or pin ever again.
Maybe it could be because the union saw the pilot group tripping over themselves to minimize any leverage we had at that point. I saw the funny colored aircraft on our ramp, and saw may trips with seats open. I didn't need the union or the company to tell me we were short bodies.

Last summer and fall, FedEx was short handed. It didn't just happen over the first few months of 2016 to put us where we are today. While we were still negotiating, no draft, no extra makeup, no protection of carryover - everyone just flying their line would have made the situation unsustainable. That is leverage in its purest form. It was there to use, no doubt about it. Peak was looming and time was on our side. Now, if you're trying to question whether we had the unity necessary to use that leverage in light of our large percentage of independent contractors, well that is a completely different discussion.
I think we did - but we blinked, it's done and here we are. Time to move on.

I think they pulled the numbers from the results from the last bid, not the actual current bid pack numbers.

In the words of Inigo Montoya...."You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

Leverage - The power to influence a person or situation to achieve a particular outcome:
For this to happen we NEED 2 things,
1.shortage of pilots and
2.pilots doing what you listed or at least the THREAT of.
For number 2, actions had already dictated otherwise. This year wasn't the first year we were short and we had shown our resolve. I agree with you that we did blink and now we need to move on but to put the blame on the union is only passing the buck.

Has been my thought ever since voluntary vacation cancellation in most seats and advanced volunteer since December. But what do I know.
