Yes you can go from HKG to CGN but they tend to play games with the manning lists, particularly when it comes to FDAs. HKG, MEM or IND 76 will result in no training when you finally get awarded CGN. They are talking about expanding CGN, so it is likely that there will be a bid with CGN on it in the next 12 months. If you activate in HKG it could be tougher to leave. If you are in training for Mem 76 when the bid closes they could send you to CGN immediately.

Something best to get from the company in writing. But betting on bids here will keep you frustrated for the next 20 years. I suspect if you are awarded HKG you might have to go to HKG with a CGN award 2 or 3 years down the road (win/win for the company and that is all that matters). If you sign up for HKG plan on a minimum of two years in HKG. This is a lot like the Air Force assignment system only more secretive and irrational.

OK...I'll throw ya some info. I was hired a year ago...
Base...Memphis unless you are asked if you would like a 75 to Cologne. I had someone recently ask me about the MD fleet and base assignment. You WILL NOT get LAX. Not sure about ANC but doubt it. A couple of my classmates bid for and were awarded ANC in the big bid we had last year.
Fleet wise you'll be hand picked for the MD and then asked if you'd like to fly it. Those folks typically are previously type rated in the fleet, flew C17s or KC135s or F18s. This could change but it's how it worked for my class and others I know.
If you don't go to the MD you will be racked and stacked according to the last 4 of your social...highest number wins. They'll then start with number 1 and tell him /her to pick one of the available planes. This varies by class so you could get all 777s, all 757s or anything in between. So I'd highly suggest speaking with someone here to figure out which fleet would be the best fit for you (BTW this will happen on day 1 for the Boeing /Airbus folks so already have your picks rank ordered when you show).
Training also varies. The MD is the longest...don't know what is shortest. After BI (basic indoc which is two weeks) you'll get a date to start training. Some start almost immediately while others wait a few weeks or more. I'd say plan on a two or three week wait time and two months give or take to complete training. Once training is complete you'll start year one pay.
Pay...sorry but again this varies by fleet and your desire to work. If you want to work a lot you can definitely break guarantee. If you want to work min or less by dropping trips or R days you can probably do that too. Reason I mention this is anything you drop gets put into your makeup bank (this stays with you forever and when you use it is paid at whatever pay rate you are currently at). If you can pay your bills and bank some days and wait for year two pay you can then use those hours at your newly improved pay rate...I know several who have done this.
For me I kinda mixed it up between lots of work and min guarantee and $66k comes to mind give or take for year one...remembering tho I started in Feb so that's for 11 months.
Schedule wise again it depends. I was very active in molding my schedule (meaning lots of time spent dropping days,trading trips, dropping trips etc) and was off for the 4th, the entire week of Thanksgiving and my last day in December was the 23rd and I didn't come back to work until the 4th of January. This was with no use of vacation which you won't have in your first calendar year.
Hopefully this helps and welcome aboard! Oh and for those of you who commute get a crash pad secured ASAP as I hear they are in short supply. BTW we have a great jumpseat policy so there is no reason to think you NEED to move here unless you really have a burning desire to live here (they should tell you this in BI and no I don't).

Gasnhaul, Your statement about vacation is not true. You should have had 14 days of vacation had you started in Feb. I started April and had 14 days.
Indoc will be painful with a lot of info passed that won't be relevant for some time. By then you'll forget and wish you had a copy of the expense reporting ppt.
Concur, MD guys will get offered and start a day early (AF big wing or USN carrier, not just hornets).
Systems will be challenging to learn a new a/c in 4 days. Study hard and learn what's taught. You won't need to learn how to rebuild the jet. The MD hand classroom notes that covered 98% of test. Search Quizlet too.
Hardest part for me was the transition to "flows" and doing the checklist without the checklist with little guidance other than the PHB (Pilot Handbook). Use you training partner if he/she is a transitioning Captain. If not, find someone ahead of you to help.
Get as many landings in the sim as possible. You'll have extra time each sim; use it.
Your probation starts at LOE (Line Oriented Eval) completion. Your real pay starts once "activated" at IOE (Initial Operation Eval) completion. Year two pay starts from date of hire (indoc).
ALPA dues will start at year two.
Lots to learn about bidding process. You'll make mistakes. Been there, done that.

I hear equal amounts of conflicting info. Other one is yr 2 pay starts 1 year after completion of OE.
The training letter uses english that don't help nun. 😉

The contract has answers. I know that some of it is like trying to interpret a vague dialogue between two old friends who have a love/hate relationship, but most of the time you can find answers there.
To answer your question, year two pay starts in the bid month your date of hire falls in. You're off probation one year after activation (your sim check).

And, also, you EARN vacation your first year but don't have any to take until your second year. The vacation your earn your second year is taken your third year, and so on.
Sick hours are granted in advance. You get 6 sick hours to your RSA, regular sick account, starting from basic Indoc. A month counts if you started BI before the 15th. For example, you start March 10th...you have March as a counter for sick and vacation. You would get 60 RSA hours and earn a full year of vacation under the CBA procedures.
The CBA calls for second year pay based on month you started basic Indoc, not from activation. You get training pay until activation and first year pay after activation.

Just one item to clarify: you earn vacation during your first CALENDAR year which you can then take during the next CALENDAR year (e.g. Hired Jul of 2016 gets you 9 days of vacation in 2017). Vacation earned in 2017 is used in 2018, and so on and so on.
