This sounds like folklore. Out of state tags in Olive Branch means Tennessee cars, and there are many TN car tags in Olive Branch.

Maybe but I presume the out of state tags we are talking about are from one of the other 48 states.

They're mainly after the TN folks moving down to MS, using the better school systems, and attempting to avoid the higher registration costs in MS. Car registration and tags are very expensive in MS vs TN (most other states). They actually patrol the school drop off/pickups at the beginning of each semester and sometimes patrol the Apartment complexes. I myself was ticketed 11 years ago within the first week of moving into a Southaven Apartment Complex, but I did have a TN tag and truly did establish residency. Fine was dropped, because you actually have 30 Days to register after "establishing residency."

Mississippi Car Registration Requirements & Steps | DMV.org

Plenty of guys crashing in Southaven and Olivebranch with various other state tags that don't get Ticketed. Crashpad in my Southaven neighborhood with Washington, Florida, and various other tags. They don't seem to have any issues. With that being said, proceed at your own risk.

"MS Vehicle Registration for Non-Residents

You do not have to apply for a Mississippi vehicle registration certificate if you're an out-of-state student studying at a Mississippi college or university.

If you're a non-resident working in Mississippi, you must obtain MS license plates if:

You maintain a house or apartment in the state.

You register to vote in Mississippi."

Started 2/16. Dropped about 10 days over the year and made almost $60k on my W2. Mix of reserve and dropping reserve days for nicer trips in open time.

Excellent strategy is to drop days on year one pay and make them up year 2+. That's the same as investing that money and making a 225% return less than a year later. Not many stocks are going to have that kind of ROI that quickly. You could also wait until you make captain and collect a bigger return. Not hard to strategically pick up an extra day or two a month without the family realizing the difference.

Default Training Date

First time poster. Thanks to all who have shared info in the past. For those recent hires, how long after the CJO call were you contacted with training dates? How long has the wait been to get started with Indoc? Thanks for all the great information and insights.

Not folklore. Circa 2005-2010 in Horn Lake, MS, all the guys in the crashpad got tickets for having out of state plates on their cars for more than 30 days. Myself included. We all had to go to the Town Hall and speak with a clerk/judge (can't remember). He threw out the ticket once we explained, but said we had to get MS tags on the car. That entailed getting a lease from the crashpad owner since we didn't have mail in our name, going to the Tag Office, etc.

So, not urban legend, actually happened...

1 week from Interview/"Hey you passed call" to CJO in email but she said she was behind that week (Jan). They had openings in less than two weeks and three weeks out for Indoc.
(Interview Jan 16-17 ("you passed" call that evening), CJO Jan 24, Class letter Feb 2)

Kim also mentioned she would let you slide your date ONCE for a "good" reason (ie one guy was waiting on his wife's military orders but didn't want to pass on the first class)

I have heard of this strategy before, but don't really understand the advantages. Do you get paid more when making up a trip versus just picking up an extra day or two a month?

First year pay is low. Second year pay is higher. You can only pick up an extra 6 hours (one day) per month, unless we made a change in this last POS contract.

So, what they are saying is, for example, if you can drop trips for MIL Leave, or can afford to just drop a trip or two a month, because your wife makes good money, then you can put those dropped hours in what is called a "make up bank".

Then, when you move up to second year pay, you can work an extra day or two a month, and use up those hours, and you are now working at a higher pay rate.

I am sure that is clear as mud, but once you have been here a while, you will have so many hours in your make up bank, you can never make them all up.

My make up bank is around 300 hours right now, and I'll never make it up. It is useful though, if I want to pick up a sweet week long trip, I can, then I can drop something else or give it away to work the same number of days.

That make up bank doesn't go away throughout your career, so you can actually accrue hours in it as a F/O, and not use them until you make Captain, where you'll make the big bucks.
