I think the next time around the entire bank system needs to go away. It disadvantages the civilian guys who may not be able to drop days and make up later. While I understand that the mil guys are working on behalf of our country and I really appreciate that. So I am not minimizing their sacrifice.

The entire bank system for me as an all civilian guy, is overtly complicated and antiquated.

I would say the majority of people with large makeup banks, ie. >300 hrs, are prior military. Most non mil people I know have less than 25 hours in their makeup bank unless they are senior and bid a lot of carryover and protect min days off.

Carryover reserve and bidding on top of it to drop conflicting days is a great way to build bank and not lose pay.

Which is exactly my point. They have the bank balance to pick up the cherry trips that some of us do not have that ability.

I'm prior military, but not Guard/Reserve after Active Duty. I think that's what you meant to say.

Still, I've had a make-up bank for-practically-ever. There are plenty of reasons other than Mil Leave to add hours to a make-up bank. Nobody has to be senior to protect Min Days Off -- even the most junior pilot is entitled to that protection if he wants it. You don't have to be senior or Guard/Reserve to drop a trip -- you just need "sufficient reserves."

It's a quality of life tool available to everyone -- a benefit -- and I'd hate to see it go. Nothing good can come from hatin' on the mil guys.

How is it complicated?

Drop trip (for whatever reason), hours go in your Make-Up bank.

Make-Up trip, hours come out of your Make-Up bank.

Never did military reserves. Have well over 500 hours in my make-up bank. Built the bank by protecting min days off (junior carry-over reserve) and dropping trips.

Haven't seen a trip "cherry" enough to pick up on my days off.

I have traded for some pretty good trips. Why can't you do that? You can trade for a trip that pays up to 12 hours more than the trips you are giving up.

I didn't fly in the reserves while at FedEx. I accumulated 300 hours by protecting min days off when I had carry over.

This is not a military vs. civilian issue.

The make up bank gives you flexibility.

Some months I may need more time off. I can drop trips, then make them up in a later month.

Don't get rid of things that make FedEx a great place to work.

600+ hours, no mil leave for me. Most were dropped at SO pay now being made up as wide body pay.

New hire here. Third month on line. 120+ hours in makeup bank. No mil leave. 2nd year here I come! Please don't mess with the best investment ever (~223% return on investment).
