👍🏻 Honestly right now nobody knows. System form changes daily.. Bid packs seem very fluid.

Welcome to the team, new hires. Just keep in mind it’s not a given you will be MEM based. A lot of new pilots are being assigned bases other than MEM lately.

Very true, lots of ANC-777 and ANC-11 along with at least a 2-year seat lock....but it’s a job! Just don’t count on MEM as a sure thing.

As I start to consider preferences for aircraft and base, I was hoping to try and talk to anyone who lives in Vegas and commutes. My initial game plan would be to commute 1st year, then move to Memphis second year. I think my aircraft preference would be 75 or 76 MEM. Having 2 young kids, I'd like to have a some control over my schedule to try and be around for important events.

Is the 75 still the place to go for fastest seniority? Obviously there's the pay difference, but are there any QoL, schedule or type of flying differences between the 75 and 76?

I appreciate the info, I can't wait to start at Purple and will be excited for whatever I end up flying!
I would wait to make any moving decisions until you know what base you are assigned to. I would advise to move to base year 1. It will arguably be the toughest schedules you will ever have at FedEx (only gets better after your first day!) and as noted already you will be on reserve quite a bit. Living in base makes a huge difference in QOL and pay. I’ve done both and will never commute again ever. Welcome aboard and congrats on the CJO!!

And don't forget the fact that if you choose to move to Memphis as a new hire, FedEx provides a paid move.

That's a great perk of the job! I'm pumped to have the opportunity to work here. Question about relocation for anyone with recent experience... CBA 6.D.4. reads that the paid move is available post-activation. However, 6.A.8 indicates that one can be eligible for relocation benefits prior to activation (by signing confirmation letter acknowledging reimbursement obligations if not activated within 18mo).

Has anyone been down this road?

I would venture to guess it’s going to take until activation is complete to sell a house, buy a house and close loose ends at the old place. I could be wrong.

Now if you’re single and moving from an apartment or your parents’ basement (that’s sarcasm) to an apartment it might be doable. Welcome aboard.

When a new hire class does their initial fleet/base bid, are they given a list of what the available positions for bid are to the class? i.e Your class will have 6xMEM76, 4xANCMD, 3xMEMAB, etc and then your bid will only be among those positions? Or do you fill out a dream sheet, bid everything under the sun, and then find out what actually was open to your class when the award comes out?

The second part. It’s a surprise to everyone. The training letter can give you a good indication of what to expect. They are not set in stone though and are always subject to change.

Good question. You need to look at 6.D.4.c. : “A newly hired pilot may elect to receive relocation benefits prior to being activated into his first crew position in accordance with Section 6.A.8. (Eligibility Prior to Activation).”

6.A.8. Basically states you’re responsible to reimburse the company if you don’t actually activate.

There are also distance limitations and limitations based on current residence location in 6.B.2 & 3. Be sure to review those to make sure you still qualify.

Congratulations!!
