I don't see holds going away anytime soon.

They may be assigned less often in lieu of speed/distance spacing, but highly unlikely they will be eliminated altogether.

I think MTN in MD has a DME Arc approach.

Holds are a basic and easy skill. Even if you mess it up, 90% of the time ATC won't notice, or maybe won't even care.

As far as DME, DME/Arc approaches, they have to be attached to a VOR or LOC. You need something for the lateral guidence in combination to the DME itself. Plenty of them around. My favorite ones are VOR/DME RNAV approaches using a KNS80.

I agree I dont think holds will go away (at least for a while)...technology will get even better eliminating the chance of screwin up

out of everything when I was getting my IFR ticket, holds were the hardest for me anyway.

VOR RWY 22 @ Topeka, Ks KTOP
VOR-A @ Emporia, Ks KEMP

I flew these two several times during my IR training.

Ive spoken with many professional pilots and often ask how often they do published approach procedures and one pilot said they did a published approach ONCE and that was for a check of some sort. Otherwise its always radar vectors and if they go missed, its vectors back.
