True, but the "competitive" range of experience for SOs is a lot higher than the posted minimum experience. Looking at the recruiting website, one might get the idea that they would be in the running for an SO job without having to spend time at the regionals.

That's precisely why I brought it up. There doesn't seem to be much talk about the SO position and competitive mins.

Is it an undesirable position being a cruise pilot?
Is it avail on the freighter side?
Would building turbine PIC time and then transitioning to a direct entry FO be a better way to go?

I would imagine when one hits 1,000 turbine, things might look brighter.

Thanks.

All come down to personal preference. S/Os doing nothing but reading papers and answering radio calls actually get more time off and are paid more (salary + housing + 13 month) than FOs on the -400F.

With the new contract proposal from the company, SO recruitment may become a thing of the past. It has only been around since the mid 90s.

From what I hear you need 3000 + hrs, with jet time to be "competitive" for a SO slot. For DEFO I believe we are talking 5-6000 hrs and lots of jet time, preferably jet PIC. I know a guy who went from left seat mini-bus for right seat A340, he´s got 10k hrs with mini-bus and heavy jet PIC.
I have applied for over 6 years now, ~5500 hrs, 1500 tp PIC, 2400 airbus, ticked the "DEFO only" box last time I updated - Not a single word so far. Have to admit that I have not called them a single time, neither have I sent email to anyone to try to get my application looked at...

Guys,

I think this was asked before but no answer. Any idea how easy or hard it would be to get based out of ATL flying cargo? I would really like to move there this seems like a good way to do it.

Thanks,

GNH

...Say what now? I thought I had taken a pretty good look at the new contract over there, but I guess I missed that part. Is this part of the unified DEFO thing?

I'm in training right now and ATL was offered to someone in my class. Apparently, ATL is open now... they're increasing the frequency in a few months.
