QR is not a bad choice for those who have no other choice, i.e. their airline shut down, bankrupt with pension termination, have no family back in their home country.
QR is not a good choice for those who wish to get hired by US legacy carriers. The bond remains, and it is not a good idea to skip out without paying.
OBTW, there not a single US legacy carrier whose career, pay, benefits, and retirement package is worse than QR. Yes you may start out with a lower pay, but overall you will do better.
As for QR being better organized than a US major, I will only say this. There was a time when the "majors" in the US consisted of the legacy carriers plus a couple more. Now, that is not the case.
Good luck with your decision!

Priceless insight
An amusing tidbit about Qatar Airways. The symbol of the airline and country is the Arabian Oryx. The people in the middle east effectively hunted them to extinction by the early 70s.
The Phoenix Zoo with the help of a few other western groups saved the animal from complete extinction by captive breeding them at the Phoenix Zoo. I have been a member of the Phoenix Zoo for quite a while, that's the only reason I know that.
It's slightly humorous that Qatar Airways would choose a symbol for their airline that is symbolic for Western generosity. Kind of like the EM-IX Bank when you think about it.

The irony is not lost on me...pilots heading to work for the ME3 then expecting to head back to the USA/elsewhere for a "real" airline job/career. Meanwhile, the ME3 are dumping capacity, getting interest free loans to buy new airplanes from the EX-IM bank, and ultimately owned and run by the "royal" families that own that particular patch of sand. They are trying to run the airlines that most wanna work for out of business. Competition is fine, but not against this stacked deck.
You gotta do what's best for you and your family, but I think I would fly an RJ in the USA before I chose to serve this master.

The bond is $50,000 for 5 years now on any fleet.
It used to be no bond if you were already rated with over 100hrs on type, and for non type rated it was something like $20,000 for three years.

It was many years ago that I left QR, and the few people I know still there tell me the rostering is better now, and they are certainly flying much less hours on the 320 and 330 these days. Although we used to have lots of long layovers back in my time. Anything between 18hrs and 5 days down-route. Yep, definitely some good times down-route!
Us younger un-married pilots were the first to leave. The ones that stayed on for many years all had a wife and kids.
I enjoyed my time at QR, and wouldn't want to be without the experience of having lived in the Middle East, but 5 years is a long time, and I wouldn't sign a bond for that long in Qatar unless I was prepared to buy out of it early.
