that may not have been true for your class, and its unfortunate that your classmates feel that way. personally, ive heard people flat out say they're only here to build the time.
it is true, this company is different than it was 5 or even 3 years ago. Pace is faster, demand is higher, personnel shifts in all departments show signs of growing pains. but no one is being "driven out." I don't think any operator would purposely put the screws to someone in order to drive the attrition rate.
that being said, it seems like the money making opportunities and differences in QOL that the regionals are advertising really make someone think long and hard about doing another peak season. again, I don't blame someone in that regard for looking elsewhere.
grass is always greener, matter of perspective, etc. etc...

When you have 6-7 year captains, some of them in the jet, leaving to be FO's at a regional, that is a sign the company is in serious staffing trouble.

Know there was a bit of a management shakeup after I left....company had been a great place to work when based in MHT, but the move to PSM changed many things...many would have left sooner if more places had been hiring in that timeframe.
Many summer days in the Northeast can be a grind....doing as many as 10+ legs in a 14 hr day, but the seasons change, things shift to longer flights and 2-4 legs were the winter norm does mix it up... actually helps to prevent pilots from getting sick of it...keeps it fresh.

I take the passenger legs the first day until I’m comfortable with my FO. Then I alternate every other leg for the rest of the trip. Many captains do the same, but others only have the FO fly the empty legs. There are a few specific airports where it is a mandatory Captain approach.

I think that is an overstatement. It would be more correct to say they have underreacted to the retention issue. Plus, that right hand man is heading to southwest. Kind of a no brainer.
