it is true, this company is different than it was 5 or even 3 years ago. Pace is faster, demand is higher, personnel shifts in all departments show signs of growing pains. but no one is being "driven out." I don't think any operator would purposely put the screws to someone in order to drive the attrition rate.

that being said, it seems like the money making opportunities and differences in QOL that the regionals are advertising really make someone think long and hard about doing another peak season. again, I don't blame someone in that regard for looking elsewhere.

grass is always greener, matter of perspective, etc. etc...
Sometimes the grass really is greener. The bull**** scheduling is pulling to make the matrix work is driving people out. The constant minrest and logistical errors are driving people out. The lack of any movement toward making changes for pilot retention is driving people out.

When you have 6-7 year captains, some of them in the jet, leaving to be FO's at a regional, that is a sign the company is in serious staffing trouble.

Out of curiosity: How are the flying duties split at Planesense? Does SIC also fly legs, or are all legs flown by the PIC and SIC is there just to do gear up, flaps up, and shut up?

When I was there 5 years back (3000+ hrs there) most Captains would alternate legs....really green FO's might just do empty legs till they had better skills since some new hire FO's do struggle with the transition to the pc-12.
Know there was a bit of a management shakeup after I left....company had been a great place to work when based in MHT, but the move to PSM changed many things...many would have left sooner if more places had been hiring in that timeframe.
Many summer days in the Northeast can be a grind....doing as many as 10+ legs in a 14 hr day, but the seasons change, things shift to longer flights and 2-4 legs were the winter norm does mix it up... actually helps to prevent pilots from getting sick of it...keeps it fresh.

I take the passenger legs the first day until I’m comfortable with my FO. Then I alternate every other leg for the rest of the trip. Many captains do the same, but others only have the FO fly the empty legs. There are a few specific airports where it is a mandatory Captain approach.

Maybe regionals now offering much more attractive packages for newhires has something to do with it? It's a pilots' market and those organizations that ignore that fact will continue to suffer from attrition........

I always flew the empty legs as an FO because you can't legally log anything otherwise.

Would you do Sole Manipulator PIC on 91 legs and SIC on 91K/135 legs?

Funny when the DO doesn't think there is a retention issue, and then his right hand man leaves for the airlines.

I think that is an overstatement. It would be more correct to say they have underreacted to the retention issue. Plus, that right hand man is heading to southwest. Kind of a no brainer.

Exactly, only way to legally log the 91 legs.
