If you live more than 2 hours from a base if you have a family member, or friend, who lives within 2 hours of that base that doesn’t mind you staying with them for your rotation just use that address . Plane Sense doesn’t care where you live as long as you have a place to stay that is within 2 hours of your base when you are on duty

Default Planesense QOL Update?

It seems that the working environment at Planesense is one of (if not the) best in the industry. Hopefully with the pilot shortage that remains.

So, what is realistic to expect for pay as a DEC? Are there ways to increase your annual income?

I've been told that there are days where you sit at an FBO waiting for a pop up trip. Is that true?

What is a "typical" day like if you are based at PSM?

Thank you very much for any information!

The working environment can be very good. The duty day is limited to 12 hours duty/12 hours rest unless the crew volunteers to go beyond that up to the FAA max/min. Jet crews are now 7/7 and hopefully the 12 crews will also be soon, once we get the pilot numbers up a little higher on the 12 side. Rental cars most overnights & good hotels. Crew meals when appropriate.

DEC pay - Go check out post #2684 in this thread, it has some estimates. OT is plentiful right now, especially in PSM. So yes, you can increase your income substantially if you want.

Our standby duty is defined by wheels up time from trip issue. The company doesn't care if you are actually at the airport for airport standby as long as you can get the plane in the air within 1 hour. So some airports where we stay very close to the FBO and have a rental car, the crew might elect to just stay at the hotel, ready to hop in the car within a few minutes. Some PSM pilots that live very close, just stay at home.

Really no "typical" day for any base. You might airline somewhere else in the country. You might drive to another airport. You might fly 2 legs. You might fly 7 legs. You might (rarely) have "hotel standby" and essentially have the day off. You might have airport standby. You might have a combination of any of these. PSM pilots do tend to airline less day 1 & 8(7).

For anyone that has done the sim portion of the interview, do you feel a red bird sim would adequately prepare someone.
Not sure the similarities, but I figure it’s better than nothing

Default Reporting Bases

Hello

How often are you allowed to change reporting bases? I see that NJ allows for it every 7 days. Is PS similiar? Thank you and apologies if this questions has been asked 200 times before.

No max that I am aware of, just 8 business days notice to put in the request. Of course everything is subject to management approval. I know some pilots hop around bases to go on vacation several times a year. You can also start in one base and end in another. We also can use "non-approved" bases on a temporary basis. So if I wanted to end my cycle in Seattle (not a crew base) I could request that. Not sure the limits of the temporary basis for non approved bases and I'm guessing they would not approve Alaska or Hawaii unless you could make a very good case on equivalent airline costs. A few minor rules apply, but nothing worth noting here.

Default Overtime

All, thanks for the information. Really helps to make an informed decision.

I read through post #2684 and all the posts that followed. Question, what is the daily rate for an Overtime day? I live close to PSM so that is something that would be welcome (plus my wife likes me going out on trips!)

Thanks in advance!

The normal overtime pay for a Captain is $1200 per day. If you put in for, and are selected, for Enhanced Overtime that pays $1700 for a Captain.

Wow... That can add up pretty fast. Do you see OT offered very often?
