Nobody said 7 days away is good. The 7 days off between tours is nice and the ability to plan things with family and friends up to a year in advance since you know your schedule is what make it a popular choice. When somebody decides where they want to have a career, there are many factors that go into the decision for what is right for them and their family. Being able to live almost anywhere Conus with zero commuting worries is probably the biggest factor for getting pilots wanting to come and stay at NJA. 7&7 schedules with the ability to plan well ahead is close behind. That said, they will work harder (with lots more duties and duty hours) and overall make less money and get less retirement contributions from the employer. This is still worth it for many.

I would say the 8/6 may be even better than the CC schedules, even with the 8-day option. With the CC schedules, you can have shorter tours, but with 8/6, they’re ALL 8-day tours. Better for FDP, and an occasional VED would make it even more lucrative.

Assuming $150k+ is doable first year on the 8/6 since it seems guys are doing that on the 7/7 as well?

Most fleets are flying at a little over 3 hours per day on average. With every tour being a day longer on the 8&6, you are looking at about $450 more in FDP per tour on average than on the 7&7. The 8&6 also pays 16% more than the 7&7. 26 more work days on the 8&6 also gives more OT and most likely another holiday worked for holiday pay. The 8&6 will end up paying significantly more early in your career since it offers much more FDP.

I was referring to the guy in the video of the 10 day tour. Not sure who he was flying for and what he was flying (Embraer?) but he was wearing an ALPA lanyard and a KCM tag.
