Much worse! On I believe “Bloody Saturday” in 2009, XOJET terminated 23 pilots without warning 2 weeks before Christmas, who only found out when their Company iPhones and Corporate emails quit working. They were greeted by “security” at outstations who confiscated their Company property.
Some were even lied to and told when the word started getting out, “no, your fine... Just keep flying”, and then we’re fired when they finished up their legs for the day. These pilots have to now check YES to WERE YOU EVER TERMINATED? For the rest of their careers on online application forms and hope that they don’t get filtered out with accident, incidents, DUI’s, terminations, etc.
Terminations are much worse on a record than a furlough.

There's been a complete turnover in management since then...but the history is still intact.

I don’t see how that could be construed as a termination. It sounds more like a furlough and I would present it that way.
Terminations are fired with cause. Furloughs are company driven reductions in staffing.

It wasn't done in reverse seniority and not a single person was offered their job back when the hiring resumed.

At will employment my friend. You can be terminated for any reason and without reason.

This type of termination on your record isn't going to matter in terms of seeking future employment. Employers are most concerned about termination due to willful negligence or cause that warranted termination. I would simply put under reason for leaving "laid off."

yes they did, June of 2013. But they had enough take a voluntary buy out that they didn't need to furlough. What this also did tho was to force a lot of people to update their resume and start looking for other jobs...which I think really started the exodus out of there. Steady attrition has been the story ever since.
