Union is right! Spirit plus 1
I wanted to compare our contract to Spirits. I went and got my hands on a Spirit contract. I suggest you all do the same. Like the union said, make an informed decision!
Here’s what I discovered....
The union is correct. Our pay tables are better than spirits!
In fact, we crush them by $10 on year 12.
Here’s a sampling at DOS + March increase:
F9 SPIRIT
6yr(fo/ca) 134/210. 133/208
8yr 145/219 143/217
12yr 162/244 160/242
(Forgive the formatting)

Unfortunately, the pay tables are not the whole story.
Here’s how we stack up with our industry leading TA with Spirit’s.
Pay
F9 has slightly better rates, but all Spirit pilots get the following:
-A321 override regardless of the equipment they actually operate.
-International override of 8% to/from all destinations outside the US.
-2 HR extension overrides.
These overrides are in addition to all other pay.
We get 1.25 over 82. Do the math to Spirits 72 to compare apples to apples.
Our per diem is and will always be 20 cents lower than Spirits.
F9 Premium is 150%
Spirit Premium is 200%

Spirit pilots maintain min guarantee during upgrade.
F9-nope.
Spirit trips dropped for training are pay protected.
F9-Sorry, but no
Ask a new upgrade how much they got paid during their ground school month. Ground schools are scheduled for the end of the month. Sims generally begin at the very end of the month or at the very beginning. F9 Pilots only get min guarantee for the second month.

Spirit pilots CANNOT have their vacations cancelled. They can, however, be postponed and they are rolled over to the next year if the pilot elects not to trade into an open period. There are no caps when a vacation is rolled over and no pilot may have his vacation postponed for more than 2 years.
F9 has no such protections.
F9 Pilots top out at 4 periods.
Spirit pilots top out at 5 periods.

Furlough Protection
If an F9 Pilot is furloughed he is given one week of pay for every year of service. This is capped at a total of six weeks.
Spirit pilots are given the following:
2 YRS = 1.5 months
3 YRS = 2 months
4 YRS = 2.5 months
5 YRS = 3 months
8 YRS = 4 months
F9’s TA states that this will be paid out in regular intervals. Now, I’ve never had to collect unemployment, but this may prevent an F9 pilot from collecting until his Frontier pittance is depleted. Spirits contract does not mention “regular payments”.

Spirit gets to call their own transportation at 30 minutes v our 40.
They even beat us in stupid little things like this. How much negotiating capital is needed here and how much would this little change increase our quality of life for those of us who use this provision on a regular basis.
